SMART HEALTH PROGRAM Founded in 2011 Main research topics: Personal Health Care Tele-rehabilitation Preventive and Predictive Medicine Tele-monitoring and Teleassistance Staff: 8 Researchers (engineers, physicians, ergonomists) + students (Polito, Unito) Living Lab Methodology Copyright 2014 ISMB 3

VISION: PATIENT EMPOWERMENT Patient information Patient control Patient participation Link between patient and his/her understanding of health information Relationship between the patient and the management of his/her condition Relationship between patient and health professionals Full patient involvement in health Copyright 2014 ISMB 4

RESEARCH AND COMPETENCES Smart Health Program aims at: developing components for the development of «regional» e- health solutions promoting development, dissemination of reference solutions (Molinette, Mauriziano, CTO.projects) providing solutions able to address healthcare and/or social care needs; solutions based on PHS (Personal Health System) model. This approach recognises needs and concerns of all stakeholders (patients, professionals, healthcare providers, regional and national institutions.) providing features for patient empowerment providing features for interoperability between PHS solutions and Personal Health Record (PHR) (CTO project) Copyright 2014 ISMB 5

RESEARCH: ISMB PHS 4x4 MONITORING SOLUTION at home Internet of Things Service center Personal Health Systems (PHS) assist in the provision of continuous, quality controlled, and personalised health services to empowered individuals regardless of location. PHS consist of: Diseases monitoring (audio, video, data, usable interface..) Telediagnosis IoT platform Intelligent processing of the acquired information Active feedback from health professionals or directly from the devices to the individuals Copyright 2014 ISMB 6

RESEARCH: TELEREHABILITATION (OUTDOOR) Sensors (accelerometer, gyroscope, Zigbee / BLE modules..) movement sensors used to estimate user's activity sensor for monitoring muscle activity Gateway:smartphone Movement analysis (walking ) Remote monitoring Bio feedback Copyright 2014 ISMB 7

RESEARCH: TELEREHABILITATION (INDOOR-KINECT) (I) The project address the needs of better quality of life of patients affected by neurodegenerative diseases: Parkinson Home based rehabilitation program provided by medical providers Terapist assigns home excercise; patient is monitored (by technology) during execercise and directly receives feedback by the system. RESEARCH: PREVENTION (LIFESTYLE MONITORING) Obesity Stress Gateway (smartphone) Internet Service Centre (storage, analysis,..) Internet Inactivity Majority of the health risks and diseases in the modern world are related to lifestyles, e.g., overweight, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, sleep deprivation, and stress. The project considers three main risk factors such as: Obesity; The primary cause of obesity is an energy intake consistently greater than the energy used in everyday life. Stress is a state of anxiety, frustration and other unpleasant feelings caused by an individual s response to a specific situation Inactivity; regular exercise assists in controlling other risk factors such as blood pressure, obesity, and stress. RESEARCH: PREVENTION (PREDICTIVE MEDICINE) Predictive medicine offers the possibility of detecting many common diseases that have a genetic basis. However, recent rapid advances in genomics and molecular biology are beginning to reveal a large number of possible new, genome-related, molecular markers for the presence of disease, susceptibility o disease, or differential response to treatment. Such markers can serve as the basis of new genomicsbased diagnostic tests for identifying and/or confirming disease, assessing an individual s risk of disease, identifying patients who will benefit from particular interventions, or tailoring dosing regimens to individual variations in metabolic response. RESEARCH: KSERA (SERVICE ROBOT FOR AGEING PEOPLE) KSERA GOAL Development of a Knowledgeable Service Robot for Aging (KSERA) that will serve several related purposes for elderly persons in general and those with pulmonary disease in particular. Specifically KSERA provides mobile assistant to follow and monitor the health and behavior of a senior, useful communication (video, internet) services including needed alerts to caregivers and emergency personnel, a robot integrated with smart household technology to monitor the environment and advise the senior or caregivers of anomalous or dangerous situations. KSERA aims at an adaptive technical aid that will provide needed and useful services in a pleasant, easy to use format via a robot that also acts as a companion and assistant Copyright 2014 ISMB 13

RESEARCH: ALZHEIMER - DEMENTIA DISEASES Prototyped solutions for Wandering and at home monitoring AIMS: Favouring the stay at home and monitoring of people suffering from severe forms of Dementia and Alzheimer s disease, thanks to mobile internet services SONO QUI : (Here, I am) Personal Localization Web Based System: Place identification by GoogleMap website interface based on parent images Exit Detection: Enabling this functionality, when the patient goes out from the house, (acoustic Buzzer Alarm or SMS to caregivers.)
