Introduction The Mobile Melanoma Risk Assessment Tool (Mobile MRAT) is the mobile version of the web-based interactive tool designed by scientists at the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the University of Pennsylvania, and the University of California, San Francisco, to estimate a person's absolute risk of developing invasive melanoma. The tool helps clinicians identify individuals at higher risk of melanoma in order to plan appropriate screening interventions with them. The Mobile MRAT was designed for use on Pocket PCs running Microsoft Windows Mobile 5. Other devices and operating systems are not supported at this time. Data Security Warning Please note that the Mobile MRAT provides the ability to save a completed screening session for each subject. This data may be recalled for display and editing or exported to a comma-delimited file. The Mobile MRAT does not provide any means of encrypting or otherwise securing the data that is retained within its database or within any file created via the data export functionality. If you are required to secure data that you save or export via the Mobile MRAT, physically secure your Pocket PC and use your Pocket PC s built-in security features. Be sure to follow your institution s data security protocol at all times.
Getting Started Now that you have successfully downloaded the Mobile MRAT to your Pocket PC, start the program by tapping its icon in your Pocket PC s Start menu or in the Programs folder. You will then be presented with this screen. (For instructions on how to obtain the Mobile MRAT see the Download/Installation Instructions located at www.cancer.gov/melanomarisktool) Tap the Additional Information link to display important information about the Mobile MRAT. Tap the Begin button to start a Mobile MRAT screening session. Tap the Database button to retrieve data from previously saved sessions or to export saved data to a comma delimited file. (Please note that the Mobile MRAT does not provide any means of encrypting or otherwise securing the data that is retained within its database or within any file created via the data export functionality. If you are required to secure data that you save or export via the Mobile MRAT, physically secure your Pocket PC and use your Pocket PC s built-in security features. Be sure to follow your institution s data security protocol at all times.)
The Mobile MRAT will collect responses for seven risk factors for women and nine risk factors for men. Each risk factor response will be collected via a separate screen such as the screen for the Freckling factor show below. Tap Additional Info on any risk factor screen to view important information concerning the factor s affect on the subject s risk of melanoma. After you enter each response, tap the Next button to proceed to the next screen. You may also tap the Previous button to go back to the previous screen.
Once all of the risk factors have been collected by the wizard, you will be presented with the risk factor Summary screen as shown to the left below. To edit entries on the Summary screen tap a grid row to change that response. Tap AcceptEdit on the subsequent screen to accept the change and return to the Summary screen. Tap Cancel to ignore any changes and return to the Summary screen. If you are satisfied with your responses, tap the Next button on the Summary screen to proceed with the risk calculation.
The results of the calculation will be displayed on the Results screen as shown below. Tap the Save button to save the session. Tap the BackToMain button to return to the main screen.
If you choose to save the session, the following screen will be presented after tapping the Save button. Tap the keyboard s characters on the Pocket PC s screen to enter a subject id. The subject id may be up to 100 characters in length. The subject id must be unique within the database. Tap Save once the subject id has been entered. You may also select an existing subject id from the dropdown list to overwrite the session for that subject. Please note that the Mobile MRAT does not provide any means of encrypting or otherwise securing the data that is retained within its database or within any file created via the export functionality. If you are required to secure data that you save or export via the Mobile MRAT, physically secure your Pocket PC and use your Pocket PC s built-in security features. Be sure to follow your institution s data security protocol at all times.
Tapping the Database button on the main screen will display the Database screen as shown to the left below. Ids for each subject within the database are displayed in the dropdown list along with the date on which the session was saved. The date is automatically displayed for each subject and is not part of the subject id itself. Tap Retrieve to retrieve the session for the selected subject id. The session data retrieved may be edited as was described for the Summary screen. Note that the Risk will be recalculated immediately after any risk factor is modified. If you wish to save any changes, tap the Save button. If you wish to delete the session, tap the Delete button. Tap Tap Here to Delete All Subjects to remove all saved sessions within the database. You will be prompted to verify this action. Tap Tap Here to Export All Subjects to create a comma-delimited file containing one record for each session within the database. The column names will be included on the first record of the file. The export file may then be transferred to your PC for use with spreadsheet or statistical programs.
