What to Wear for Female Selling Associates STYLE AT WORK is all about having a little more freedom to express your personal style, all while keeping it professional, neat, and pulled together. Below you ll find more visuals to help you better understand the STYLE AT WORK approach and familiarize yourself with the ins and outs of the policy. Sleeveless Tops and Dresses STYLE AT WORK is all about opening up the options of what you can wear to work. Among the items you can wear are sleeveless black tops and dresses. Sleeveless black tops should be modestly cut, which means the shoulder width should be wide enough that your top could not be considered to have straps. Use your best judgment here, and remember that we want you not only to be stylish, but also professional, neat, and pulled together. This is a great example of a fun sleeveless top that is still professional and pulled together. The shoulder width of the sleeves and a camisole styled under the lower neckline ensure a modest, yet stylish look. This beautiful dress is a classic choice for any size or age and can be styled with a variety of accessories and shoes. Strappy tops do not fit STYLE AT WORK and should never be worn on their own on the sales floor. If our model styled this top with a third piece she would be ready for work. Page 1 of 8

Two-piece All-black Look The STYLE AT WORK approach now allows women to wear a two-piece outfit (consisting of pants or skirt and a top), as long as both pieces are all black. Instead of hiding the beautiful detail on your blouse under a cardigan or jacket, you can show off your great top and even throw in some fun accessories to liven up your look. The fun detail on our model s blouse is a great way to show off personal style, while still maintaining an all-black look. This ruffled blouse is a great top for work. With the STYLE AT WORK approach, pants can be any length between the foot and below the knee. The cotton-ribbed tank top makes this outfit too casual for the sales floor. The cut of the tank top creates straps that are too thin to be worn without a third piece. Leggings Leggings are another great addition to your work wardrobe under the STYLE AT WORK approach. Leggings can, at times, be a little tricky to style, so always use your best judgment and even err on the side of caution. Leggings worn to work should be black, opaque, in good shape, and worn only under long tunics or dresses that provide adequate coverage. Leggings worn as pants do not fit STYLE AT WORK, rather, style your leggings as you would opaque tights under a skirt, dress, or long tunic top. Leggings worn under a skirt that is just too short and tight, or under a tunic that s too short do not fit STYLE AT WORK. Page 2 of 8

Styling a Third Piece While a third piece is not a requirement for female associates under the STYLE AT WORK approach, it is in no way discouraged. A third piece creates a sophisticated selling style, and allows you to have fun with a colored blouse underneath. Suit coats come in a variety of cuts and styles, creating looks that range from traditional to edgy. Black cardigans and sweaters are another great choice, especially in the winter months when you can style them with your non-work wardrobe in the evenings or on weekends. Hem Lengths for Skirts, Dresses, and Pants STYLE AT WORK is all about flexibility and fun, and that means being flexible in how you style items that could potentially be inappropriate for the selling floor if styled incorrectly. Under the STYLE AT WORK approach, varying hemlines are acceptable, but micro-minis are not allowed. When in doubt, style a questionable hemline with black opaque tights to create a more modest and professional image. Skirts that are too tight or too revealing are not a part of Macy s style. In addition, a variety of hemlines on pants fit STYLE AT WORK, with one exception: shorts of any length or style should not be worn on the sales floor. Hemlines on pants should always hit at the very least an inch or so below the knee. Page 3 of 8

Incorporating Color and Pattern Experimenting with color and pattern is a great way to express your own unique style, and we encourage you to have fun with your workday look. But to keep the standout all-black look, there are a few guidelines we need you to follow when incorporating color and pattern into your STYLE AT WORK. First, you can wear any color or patterned top when styled under a black third piece (such as a sweater or jacket). Please keep in mind our style mantra of professional, neat, and pulled together when considering your patterned top, as we do not consider oversized graphics or logos to fit STYLE AT WORK. In addition, when wearing an all-black look that does not include a third piece, keep in mind that a faint pinstripe is okay, as long as you still have the overall image of an all-black look from a few feet away. Below find some visuals to help guide you when incorporating color and pattern in your workday style. When worn on its own, this cream and gold top doesn t quite fit Macy s selling floor style, but when paired under a third piece our model exemplifies STYLE AT WORK. The pattern on this jacket is too bold and doesn t project an all-black look. Any colored accessories can be paired with your all-black workday style with one exception; tights should be black in color to keep the all-black look. Page 4 of 8

So what can female Junior s Associates wear to work? Juniors, Impulse, and Young Men s departments represent fast-turning fashion trends and, as a result, you are encouraged to professionally reflect these trends in your work attire. Just remember, if you are working in any other departments during your shift, you will need to comply with the allblack STYLE AT WORK guidelines rather than the relaxed standards of Juniors, Impulse, and Young Men s. Denim You can wear black or dark denim that closely reflects trends in your department. We ask, however, that you still keep it professional, neat, and pulled together that means no fraying, no tears, and no excessive distressing or washes. All denim should be worn on the hip; in other words, no pants that sit so low that they expose your undergarments. Flexibility with Color and Trend Part of the expanded flexibility for Juniors, Impulse, and Young Men s associates is that you can wear colors other than black on top as long as it reflects a trend in your department. Just bear in mind that even with this added flexibility, distracting and/or offensive logos or graphics are never considered professional, no matter how they re styled. Colorful shirts and tops are a great reflection of trends sold in Juniors, Impulse, and Young Men s and can be paired with jeans, dark pants, or skirts. Feel free to experiment with color and trend when wearing a dress in Juniors, Impulse, and Young Men s. This outfit crosses the line, even under the STYLE AT WORK approach. One shoulder tops, halters, or tight dresses are never professional, no matter how they re styled. Page 5 of 8

What to Wear for Male Selling Associates STYLE AT WORK is all about having a little more freedom to express your personal style, all while keeping it professional, neat, and pulled together. Below you ll find more visuals to help you better understand the STYLE AT WORK approach and familiarize yourself with the ins and outs of the policy. Take a look for some more tips and be sure to scroll to the end of the document for some helpful guidelines on what you can wear if you work in Juniors, Impulse, or Young Men s. The Suit (Required in Men s Furnishings, Men s Suits, and Better Women s Sportswear) There is something classic about an all-black suit. This traditional look is both a professional and sophisticated choice. Male associates who work in Men s Furnishings, Men s Suits, and Better Women s Sportswear are required to wear a suit or sport coat. Of course, you can wear a suit to work regardless of your department if it fits your style. You are also welcome to have a little fun with this traditional look as you can wear any colored shirt or tie under a black suit coat. Page 6 of 8

A Few Suit Don ts The black vest on shown here doesn t reflect STYLE AT WORK, unless it is styled with a black shirt and any color tie. While our model has on an all-black look, it doesn t quite fit STYLE AT WORK. A black crew neck T-shirt is not allowed on the sales floor, even under a suit coat. In this photo, our model needs to add a tie to fit STYLE AT WORK. Men should always have on a tie when on the sales floor, unless they work in Juniors, Young Men s, or Impulse. Some men have the option of going without a third piece When working on the sales floor in a department other than Men s Furnishings, Men s Suits, and Better Women s Sportswear, you have the option of not wearing a third piece, as long as you wear black pants, a black dress shirt, black shoes and belt, and a tie. While our model here is demonstrating a sophisticated all-black look, men are encouraged to have a little fun with style and wear any color or pattern tie with their dark dress shirt. But, there are a few don ts Wearing a light colored shirt and tie without a suit coat does not fit STYLE AT WORK. Plain black crew neck T-shirts and polo shirts do not fit the professional STYLE AT WORK image either. Page 7 of 8

So what can male Juniors Associates wear to work? No Tie or Jacket for Men As a male associate, you are not required to wear a tie or jacket in these departments. Your shirt can be collared or uncollared, woven or knit, tucked or un-tucked, as long as it reflects a trend in the department and does not contain any offensive or oversized graphics and logos. Just remember, we want you to look professional and neat, so always use your best judgment when enjoying this particular STYLE AT WORK approach. Oversized graphics and logos never fit the STYLE AT WORK approach, even in Juniors, Impulse, and Young Men s. Page 8 of 8
