47 HOW TO MEASURE HOW TO MEASURE GUIDE Men and Women Determine Your Size To get accurate body measurements, use a tape measure, keeping the tape taut but not stretched. Get a friend to help, if possible, measuring your body over properly-fitting undergarments while standing erect, without shoes, and with feet approximately 6 inches apart. For consistency, take all measurements from the same side of the body. Men: HEIGHT Standing with your back to a wall, without shoes and with your feet slightly apart, measure from the floor to the top of your head. Your height will usually determine whether you will need a short, regular or long fitting. 157cm (5 2 ) 170cm (5 7 ) = Short 173cm (5 8 ) 183cm (6 0 ) = Regular 185cm (6 1 ) 200cm (6 7 ) = Long NECK Measure around the base of your neck with your shirt collar unbuttoned at the height of the collar if buttoned. Place one finger between the neck and the tape to ensure comfort of fit. CHEST With arms relaxed at your sides, measure around your chest at the armpits, over the highest part of your chest and shoulder blades, keeping the tape parallel to the floor. 48 SLEEVE LENGTH The sleeve length is measured with the coat on and the arms down by the sides. With the tape placed at the top of the shoulder seam, measure to a point 2cm below the wrist. WAIST Measure around your waist at the point where your trousers would normally ride. Keep one finger between the tape and your body to allow comfort of fit. LEG Stand with feet together and trousers up on the waist where they normally ride. Measure from the top of the waist to the floor without shoes on. Do not lean head forward to look down while measuring is taking place. Women: HEIGHT Standing with your back to a wall, without shoes and with your feet slightly apart, measure from the floor to the top of your head. BUST If possible, get a friend to help. With arms relaxed at your sides, measure the fullest part of your bust, keeping the tape parallel to the floor. HIPS Stand with your heels together, and measure round the fullest part of your hips, keeping the tape parallel to the floor.
