Marks: 100 Semester-1 Introduction: Meaning and nature of personality. Historical development, Fields of personality. Determinants of personality. Methods of study of personality. I Perspectives/ Approaches to Personality: Biological, Psychoanalytical, Dispositional, Learning, Phenomenological, Cognitive, Eastern approach. II Measurement of personality: Interview, observation, and Projective techniques. I Adjustment: Characteristics of human adjustment, Social influences and personal adjustment, Psychological approaches to adjustment, Standards of adjustment, Social norms, belief, values that influence adjustment. I

Basic areas of Adjustment: Family, School, Career and Job, Marital, Old age and Death adjustment.. II Dynamics of Adjustment and Coping: Categories of stressors, Factors predisposing an individual to stress; Coping strategies, Psychological treatment of serious maladjustment, A model foe self-adjustment, Mental Health: Characteristics, Need, Importance, Status of mental health in India. II Exceptional Children: Identification and guidance of gifted, creative, mentally retarded and underachievers, Guidance of persons with learning disabilities, visual and hearing impairment, Research and evaluation of guidance. PAPER-III Principles of Counseling M. Marks: 100 Counseling: Its meaning and factors, Types of counseling, Emergence and growth of counseling psychology, counseling movement in India. Present status of counseling. Theoretical Approaches to Counseling: Classification: Directive/ Nondirective/ Eclectic. Affectively oriented, behaviourally oriented, and Cognitively oriented approaches. Family therapy. Psycho-education, and Community developing a pragmatic therapeutic position. Process of Counseling: Initiating counseling: Preparation and intake procedures, establishing rapport, termination of and response to initial interview. Establishing Structure: Attending behaviour, Observation, non-verbal behaviour, Listening, Verbal patterning and communication responses, Silence, Use of questions. Transference and counter-transference. Regarding and respect in counseling relationship. Involuntary clients, Client expectation. Termination of counseling: Termination of session and termination of counseling, Variables affecting counseling process. I

Psychological Testing and Diagnosis: Test use and interpretation, Non test client appraisal techniques. Psycho-diagnosis: Common classification system. Limitation of diagnosis. Counseling Interview: Essential aspects, basis procedures, problems and their handling. Areas of Counseling: Family group consultation, Counseling families concerning children, Counseling with parents, Counseling the delinquent, Counseling reluctant clients, Marriage counseling, Premarital counseling, Counseling women, Genetic counseling, Counseling the handicapped, Career counseling, Adolescent counseling. Ethical Issues: Meaning. Issues arising within the individual and out of other professional relationships. Ethical issues in counseling psychology research. Various Therapeutic Techniques: Psychoanalytic therapy, Group therapy, Psychodrama, Chemo-therapy, Behaviour therapy, Cognitive therapy. PAPER-IV Psychological Assessment and Behaviour Modification M. Marks: 100 Nature of Psychological Tests: Nature and definition, historical perspective, Setting and purpose of tests, Characteristic of examinee, Effect of examiner, Standardization, Reliability, Validity, Types of tests, tests for intelligence and cognition: verbal/ nonverbal, individual/ group tests of intelligence. Special aptitude tests. Attention/ concentration tests. Memory tests. Personality Assessment: History, material administration, scoring, interpretation, and evaluation of frequently used personality inventories/ questionnaire and projective tests. Personal Orientation Tests and Rating Scales: Type A behaviour, Locus of Control, Attitude scale, ST AI etc., and other clinical rating scales. Tests for Special Population: Tests for infants, Motor and speech handicaps, Learning disabilities, Mental sub-normality, Visual and hearing Handicapped.

I Relaxation Techniques and Systematic Desensitization: Jacobson s progressive muscular relaxation, Autogenic training, Yoga, Meditation etc., Basic principles, theory, and procedure of systematic desensitization. Cognitive Behaviour Modification and Biofeedback: Melchenlaum s self-instruction training. Beck s model, Rational emotive therapy of Ellis, Biofeedback principles and applications. Application of behaviour therapy: In anxiety disorders, Psychoactive substance use disorder, Sexual disorders, Personality disorders, Childhood disorders, Psychotic disorders, Programmed learning. Behaviour Modification: Nature, Learning theory, Foundation of behaviour modification, Merits and limitations of behavioural approach. Behavioural counseling. PAPER-V Practical M. Marks:100 SECTION-A Psychological Assessment: Administration, scoring and interpretation of intelligence, cognitive, personality, personal orientation, and tests for special population. (Each student has to administer and report at least 10 tests from these areas). SECTION-B Techniques and Skills of Counseling: Relaxation, Systematic Desensitization, Assertiveness training, Operant conditioning, Technique, Cognitive Behaviour Modification, Biofeedback,

Transaction analysis, Group counseling, etc. (Students would be exposed to above techniques and would prepare a detailed report). I SECTION-A Case Study: Educational, Vocational guidance (Special population/ Career guidance, Behavioural problem, Adolescent counseling, Premarital counseling, Counseling of delinquent, Crisis intervention, Health counseling etc. (Each student has to take up three case studies from the above areas). SECTION-B Training: Each student has to undergo supervised training in a related institute for 30 days. Detailed practical repot of the training would be prepared.
