COMPLETE YOUR DEGREE IN 16 TO 20 MONTHS AUNE s Master of Science in Environmental Studies is a 42-credit program that takes five semesters to complete. The 30-credit Master of Science in Resource Management and Conservation can be completed in four semesters. BUILD YOUR RESUME AND CAREER NETWORK WITH INTERNSHIPS AND A CAPSTONE PROJECT Connect theory with practice by completing six credits of internship and a three-credit capstone project. Create and install a loon-nesting platform, research the spread of an invasive species, teach ecology at a residential learning center, meet with stakeholders on the siting of a new mall, or student-teach AP science classes the possibilities are endless.

3 MASTER'S INTERNATIONAL PEACE CORPS SERVICE & MASTER'S STUDY In partnership with the Peace Corps, students can combine Peace Corps service with master s study in the Department of Environmental Studies as part of a Master s International program. Choose an MS in Resource Management and Conservation (Professional Science Master s track only) or an MS in Environmental Studies with a concentration in Advocacy for Social Justice and Sustainability, Conservation Biology, Environmental Education, or Sustainable Development and Climate Change. Earn 12 credits, tuition-free, while serving as a Peace Corps volunteer. AUNE will also waive your admissions fee and $1,500 in student fees while you are overseas.

4 PROGRAM COMPARISON ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES (MS) In the area of Environmental Studies, AUNE offers two different master s degrees: An MS in Environmental Studies (with six different concentrations) and an MS in Resource Management and Conservation. Students can apply for the spring or fall semester. Outlined below are the six concentrations of the MS in Environmental Studies degree as well as the MS in Resource Management and Conservation degree. Additionally, AUNE offers a PhD in Environmental Studies. WHICH CONCENTRATION IS RIGHT FOR YOU? Advocacy for Social Justice and Sustainability Capstone final project and two internships Program Emphasis: Training for public interest advocates and grassroots organizers working for ecological sustainability, social justice, and the democratic control of corporations Job Opportunities: Paid advocacy positions at public interest organizations, grassroots organizations, labor unions, professional associations, progressive electoral public policy groups, research and data management organizations, progressive media and cultural groups Conservation Biology Capstone final project (thesis, an applied project, or a collaborative service learning initiative) and two internships Program Emphasis: Ecology, field work, statistics, GIS, interdisciplinary conservation issues Job Opportunities: Ecology, biology, research and management positions in state or federal agencies, nonprofit conservation organizations, and private companies in areas of natural resource management and protection, ecosystem management, habitatrestoration, and preservation of biodiversity Environmental Education Capstone final project and two internships Program Emphasis: Learning science and sustainability content along with teaching/ facilitation techniques and program design for non-formal settings such as non-profits, nature centers, aquaria, higher education (e.g., sustainability coordinators), farms, community-based initiatives (all ages) Job Opportunities: Educators, outreach, and program directors at nature centers, zoos, farms, schools, aquaria, non-profit organizations, business, and academic and governmental agencies

6 PROGRAM COMPARISON RESOURCE MANAGEMENT & CONSERVATION (MS) Designed for the Working Professional Weekend Classes This 30-credit program gives students the flexibility to earn a master s degree while continuing to work full-time. Classes meet on specific weekends during the semester. Students develop leadership skills to address multi-issue, multi-stakeholder environmental problems and learn how to manage complex natural resource issues. PROFESSIONAL SCIENCE MASTER'S (PSM) Each of AUNE s MS programs has been approved for recognition as a Professional Science Master s (PSM) by the Council of Graduate Schools. Master s students can choose to follow either the PSM track of studies or the non-psm track of studies. 7 BEYOND THE CLASSROOM PROJECTS AND GROUPS Center for Climate Preparedness and Community Resilience helps communities to prepare, respond and recover in the face of climate impacts and other disruptions through collaborative, innovative solutions. The Center for Tropical Ecology and Conservation promotes the sustainable and just use of tropical ecosystems through research, education, and student support. The Monadnock Research and Ecological Project fosters appreciation of Mount Monadnock through research, monitoring and education. The Sustainability and Social Justice Committee includes students, staff, administrators, and faculty representatives who guide campus initiatives such as the Green Guru Office Energy-Efficiency Audit program that helps employees reduce workspace emissions. Student Alliance works to increase student participation in decision making processes, community service, and social events to build a strong and diverse learning community. The Keene Community Gardens Connection project installs and maintains raised-bed gardens in Keene. It also offers educational programs in partnership with local service agencies, students, and community members. FIELD STUDY Field Study Trips emphasize AUNE s commitment to collaborative teaching and learning. Students can study alpine flora in the White Mountains, coastal geoecology on Cape Cod, desert ecology in the Sonoran Desert, environmental justice in New Orleans, forest and tundra ecology on Mount Desert Island or in Alaska, mountain ecology in the Adirondacks, tropical ecology in Costa Rica, wolf ecology and management in Yellowstone National Park, or sustainability and new food systems in Cuba.
