With such volumes of data spread across the organization, the ultimate question is, how can an individual or group of individuals tap into and use everything that is available to them. Data on its own can be difficult to understand, combine, and share unless it has context that enables anyone in the organization to quickly comprehend, interpret and act on information. This session focuses on the best practices and required capabilities for sharing, standardizing and consistently enriching data from business and operations systems so that data is self-service and turned into actionable information at every level in the organization. SPEAKER: Penny Gunterman, Product Marketing Manager Transform Information into Intelligence 10:10-10:50 AM ABSTRACT: More and more companies are turning to big data engines to gain new insights into sensor based data, assets, processes and business systems for novel operational insights. The reality is that there is a hybrid world of local data and enterprise big data analytics and visualization required to support operations: local data for immediate and localized systems and operations, and big data for longer term and cross enterprise analysis to uncover correlations, trends, and patterns that may not be obvious at the time. This session explores best practices for data analytics and visualization, the latest visualization and analytics tools in the PI System, and new opportunities to leverage your PI System Data for Big Data initiatives within the organization. 2 Gas Turbine Performance Monitoring with the PI System - Williams 11:15-11:45 AM ABSTRACT: Williams experienced early success with the PI System by leveraging the increased availability and visibility of operational data to avoid a turbine/compressor set failure at a gas processing plant. As keeping our compression horsepower online and available is critical to our business, we have continued employing the PI System to drive value with a strategic focus on compression equipment performance monitoring. Along the way, opportunities have been enabled by modeling turbine and compressor performance using PI AF, exception-based reporting with PI Notifications, aggregation of data with PI OLEDB Enterprise, visualization of fleet comparison data in dashboard displays, putting operational data in the hand of engineers and technical specialists with PI Coresight. This talk will highlight the path taken from that early success to our current suite of equipment performance monitoring applications and some of the wins that the applications have enabled along the way. SPEAKER: Mark Warren, Senior Engineer Mark Warren is a Senior Engineer in the Asset Performance and Benchmarking group within the Operational Excellence organization at Williams. Since undertaking this role in 2012, Mark has focused primarily on leveraging the PI System to drive equipment reliability and availability improvements. Prior to joining Williams, he spent 11 years in the commercial aviation industry. Roles included operations engineering support for main engines and auxiliary power units, repair and overhaul shop engineering support for main engines and leader of a materials and processes engineering team. Mark Warren holds a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from Texas A&M University. Enabling Analytics and Operational Intelligence with the PI System - OSIsoft 11:45-12:15 PM ABSTRACT: IT organizations are seeking innovative ways to analyze operating data using newly-available Business Intelligence, Data Warehousing, and Predictive Modelling technologies, to name a few. At the same time, OT organizations have recognized the value in including these new tools to their process analysis toolkit. The PI System has distinctive analytical capabilities of its own, but it can also provide the highly-performant access to operating data required by these tools, while maintaining the asset context required to establish common ground between IT and OT use cases. In this session, we will introduce the PI Integrator for Business Analytics, a new product which provides self-service access to prepare PI System data for analysis. Whether you re a process engineer, business analyst, or data scientist, this session will get you started in leveraging your skillset with PI System data to gain awareness and a deeper understanding of the operation. SPEAKER: Curt Hertler, Global Solutions Architect Curt Hertler is a Global Solutions Architect at OSIsoft based in Cleveland. In this role, he helps OSIsoft customers gain value from their PI System. Curt has 19 years experience in petroleum refining working for Marathon and BP. In addition to process engineering, he was involved in many optimization projects using linear programming and developed several online modelling applications. He was also involved in many refinery PI projects. 3 1:30-2:00 PM Track 1 Oil & Gas Focus Enhancing Digital Oilfield Solutions with the PI Server s Asset Framework - ENI ABSTRACT: Oil & Gas operators are faced with many industry challenges and ENI Petroleum is trying to make the best use of available technology. The OSIsoft PI System infrastructure is a key component of ENI's Digital Oilfield solution which supports field surveillance and production optimization. The latest release of PI Asset Framework is helping ENI to reach higher levels of quality and providing a better solution both in terms of functionality and sustainability. Now it is easy to automate the creation of Event Frames to represent well and equipment downtimes, well tests, and other various events happening in the field. Also, the scalability of our system has increased thanks to Asset Analytics which is used to create main KPIs and alarm conditions using PI AF templates, rather than manual calculations. The power of PI AF is then coupled with PI System visualization tools, in particular PI Coresight 2014 which engineers are using for ad-hoc capabilities to view assets based on templates. SPEAKER: Alberto Dellabianca, Digital Oilfield Advisor Track 2 Enabling Operational Intelligence: Focus on Asset Health Improving Operations for Business Impact: Using Your Data Asset as an Enabler for Competitive Advantage ABSTRACT: As advances in instrumentation, networks, and production processes make data more prevalent within operations, the integration and modeling of information from across these varied sources is becoming a critical differentiator for improving process productivity, asset reliability, resource management and EHS performance. Although many technology solution providers have their own applications to access and store the related data, it is often only available to meet very specific and limited functional needs. When data is recognized as a critical asset and managed as part of an infrastructure, however, it can become a key enabler to help transform the entire operating location. By making all process and production data available, and providing information in a context model based on functional needs, operations can drive improved results against their critical business impacts. This presentation will introduce the concept of a data infrastructure and show how a related strategy can help deliver operational intelligence to enable real-time action and decisions, provide a common platform for analysis, and establish standardized KPIs to measure and evaluate ongoing performance. SPEAKER: Lance Fountaine, Metals & Mining Industry Principal Lance Fountaine joined OSIsoft in October 2013 as an Industry Principal for the Metals and Mining industry following a 20 year career in the aluminum business with Alcoa Global Primary Metals. 2:00-2:30 PM Enabling the Journey of Business Transformation with the PI System MOL ABSTRACT: Over the last several years, MOL s downstream (refining and logistics) has been implementing a New Downstream Program (NDP) targeting improvements in the KPIs of: energy reduction (2% reduction); operational availability improvement (+1.1%); hydrocarbon loss reduction (30%); yield improvement (5%) generating in excess of $550K EBITDA. A long time PI System user primarily as a historian with heavy use of PI DataLink and many individual Microsoft Excel workbooks, MOL realized that the use of PI Asset Framework was fundamental to supporting their NDP and their transformational journey. This presentation will overview MOLs strategic use of the PI System and in particular PI AF to enable the NDP and enabling their transformational journey to an operational intelligence and excellence company. 4 Innovation for the Midstream - OSIsoft Asset Health Monitoring OSIsoft 2:30 3:00 PM ABSTRACT: Midstream companies are using the PI System to deliver innovative capabilities for their organizations. These new capabilities provide faster, more accurate insight to operations as well as asset performance. In this session, we will highlight innovative cases where Midstream companies use the OSIsoft PI System is to manage supply/demand balance and integrate with ESRI ArcGIS to visually understand system operations. SPEAKER: Michael Graves, O&G Industry Principal Mike Graves joined OSIsoft in 2013 after spending 25 years in leadership roles at leading companies such as Exxon and most recently NiSource. At OSIsoft, he interacts with senior executives from Business and IT in the oil industry to promote the use real-time information as an operational business asset and competitive differentiator. He is currently an Oil & Gas Industry Principal. Mr. Graves holds a Bachelor of Business Administration. ABSTRACT: This talk will provide an overview of how PI System provides value in asset health monitoring. It will also provide a demo. SPEAKERS: Gopal Gopalkrishnan, Global Solutions Architect; Jie Chou, Systems Engineer Gopal Gopalkrishnan has been involved in several roles at OSIsoft and has been working with the PI System since the mid-1990s, in software development, technical and sales support and field services. He is currently a Solution Architect. Previously, he was a Product Manager with a focus on Enterprise and Asset Integration and PI Data Access. Mr. Gopalkrishnan holds a Master's degree in engineering, continuing education in Business Administration and is a registered professional engineer.
