2 Some definitions: NAS and NAP National Adaptation Strategy (NAS): Involvement of stakeholders and decision-makers. ITALIAN NAS NAS Analysis of possible mainstreaming of adaptation in the different sectorial policies. Recommendations and guidelines to build up adaptive capacity in different sectors and at different spatial scales (national, regional and local) and to reduce societal costs. Review after n years. A National Adaptation platform National Adaptation Plan (NAP): Implementation of NAS with governance and funding allocatton. Evaluation of implementation. (Indicators).

3 Italian NAS: the Kick off The Italian Ministry for Environment, Land and Sea started the work toward a NAS. 17 CONCLUSIONS Italian NAS in progress. EU MS NAS lesson learnt. Future allignement to EU NAS. Possible next steps after adoption of the NAS: A National Adaptation Platform Preparation of a Plan of Action: o analysis of institutional competences at national, regional, provincial and local levels o agreement on priority adaptation actions to be implemented o agreement on time scale of intervention o Allocation of funds.
