2 What is QUEST? QUEST is a Quality Management tool developed to help cities to set up and further develop their sustainable mobility policies and actions with the assistance of an external expert the QUEST Auditor.

6 Why QUEST? to improve the quality of urban transport and life in the city; to support cities in complying with EU policies (White Paper on Transport, Action Plan on Urban Mobility, etc.); to offer support to cities committed to sustainable mobility; to specifically address the reality of small and medium sized cities which have limited resources; to create a network of cities and experts in the field of sustainable urban mobility.

16 QUEST and the cities Rivas Vaciamadrid has a SUMP, QUEST has reviewed it focal areas chosen: cycling and mobility management Action Plan: Extension of public bicycle system BICINRIVAS Bike parking spots Bike promotion, awareness raising and education Walking Bus to Schools & Employees Transport Plans Implementation of other school mobility measures Carpooling to school & for employees Rivas Vaciamadrid will use SUMP Award to cofund these actions

17 What are the benefits of QUEST for cities? QUEST assesses organisational processes in cities and offers guidance on how to improve them; QUEST creates better understanding of challenges and problems within the city in relation to transport and mobility with the help of a critical friend the QUEST auditor; QUEST helps cities to identify which measures are effective in achieving energy savings in transport, and which are possible to achieve QUEST Action Plan (i.e. QUEST helps cities to make the right choices);

18 QUEST Audit is especially suitable for medium-sized cities with fewer recourses to achieve improvements in sustainable mobility; QUEST provides support for both cities that want to develop a SUMP or cities that already have one; QUEST awards a certificate to cities which have achieved progress towards sustainable mobility that can be used to demonstrate a city s engagement in sustainability.

19 Expected impact of QUEST for CO2 emission reduction Yearly reduction of ± 5% of car-related CO2 = 2,8 million ton CO2 up to 2020 or ± 0,5 ton CO2/inhabitant

20 QUEST Academy Ensures the legacy of QUEST in the post-project period Safeguards the quality of the methodology Continues training auditors throughout Europe Provides a platform for discussion and exchange of experiences between QUEST auditors and cities. Within the next years the QUEST-method shall be applied in as many cities in Europe (and outside) as possible
