Degree programs A genuine experience
Our full name may be Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, however we are affectionately known as Cattolica. Cattolica is one of those great European universities which has become part of the city landscape. Our students mingle with tourists, business people and the local population. They provide a youthful energy which permeates every corner, from the cafés and shops surrounding our campus, to our beautiful gardens, graceful buildings and impressive library. Cattolica is dynamic, yet conducive. Progressive, yet traditional. Challenging, yet fun. The cloisters at our Milan campus are iconic. Tens of thousands of students have walked along these magnificent corridors to lectures, tutorials and meetings, knowing that on one special day, they can walk along the hallowed central lawns. That special day is the day of their graduation. Milan may be our largest campus, but Cattolica has a location in Rome, which contains our medical school; a sustainability focused campus in Piacenza-Cremona; a research and innovation center in Campobasso and a site in Brescia, at the foothills of the Alps. All of these campuses share one common ethos. To put the individual first. Our academic staff engage with our students and believe in our students. We continually look into developing new programs and provide new opportunities and options. As any great European university, we welcome students from around the world; students who enrol at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, whom during their stay, call their new home my Cattolica. 3 Education at Cattolica is informed, relevant and enduring. Our University inspires ideas, imparts wisdom and instils a sense of history. A very special place Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore is the largest private University in Europe, founded in 1921 by Agostino Gemelli. Spread over 5 campuses across Italy, it boasts over 42,000 students and offers 190 degree programs at all levels across 14 Schools. Ranked amongst the best Italian institutions and placed 1st for graduate job placement, it also offers Graduate, Study Abroad and Summer programs in English. Each of Cattolica s five campuses cater for International Students, with each campus boasting its own unique identity. Milan is home to Università Cattolica s largest campus, surrounded by tree-lined boulevards, piazzas, basilicas and parklands and offers the majority of English taught programs. Originally a monastery connected to the St. Ambrose Basilica, it was converted to a University, resulting in a modern campus yet retaining the stunning original architecture. The ancient Roman city of Brescia houses Arts and Science in the historical building of Martinengo dell Aquilone. Campobasso, the innovation campus supports a world famous High Technology Research and Education Center in Biomedical Science. The sustainability campus is located at Piacenza-Cremona, and enjoys an International reputation in the Agriculture, Agro-Food and Economic sector. Finally, the International acclaimed Faculty of Medicine and Surgery is located in Rome, a majestic city which contains many of the world s most impressive historic monuments, including the Colosseum and St Peter s Square. The university distinguishes itself for its interdisciplinary approach to the academic programs and modules it offers its students. A dynamic yet traditional University, it offers young people the opportunity to engage in professional development as well as growing through personal experience by offering a truly multicultural environment and a wide range of student services. Research activity draws on 22 departments, 54 institutes and 70 research centers. Their common goal is the understanding and study of those topics that have proved vital to the well-being of each human being: the new frontiers of economics, bioethics, environmental recuperation, developments in the judicial fields, family dynamics, major mass phenomena, the evolution of political systems, new horizons in medicine, the technological applications of physics and mathematics, and the most recent discoveries in environmental research. The university takes great satisfaction in the acclaimed UCSC International, which promotes, develops and implements educational opportunities of great importance to outbound and inbound students. International Students are welcomed with specialized facilities such a sophisticated accommodation service, a dedicated team of International Advisors and personal tutors. Similarly, Domestic Students are offered the ideal study environment for a summer or semester abroad, through a variety of diverse and tailored programs. To study at Cattolica is to study at a University where the wealth of academic programs and the robustness of academic standards is matched by the grandeur of our buildings and our equally impressive locations. 4 5

There are some places in life which you can never forget, and this is mine. This is my place. To study at Cattolica is to become part of the city. Footsteps around Milan Milan is a city of people. A city full of life. The menus of Milanese restaurants have influenced the world s finest cuisines. And the creations of Milanese designers have placed Milan alongside New York, Paris and London as a home of global fashion. Milan is the undisputed financial, commercial and industrial capital of the country and has a driving economy that makes it the only gate to international capital markets. It has over 8,600 registered active national and international financial and insurance businesses. 10 The Italian Stock Exchange (la Borsa Italiana) which has over 220 companies listed, is located 10 minutes away from our campus, a prime vicinity for those students studying in the fields of, Banking and Finance. Being headquarter to many of Italy s multinational corporations and world famous brands, Cattolica students can breathe and live the energy of a business-centered city life right outside the central campus doorstep, and are in the ideal position to put to practice the knowledge gained in the course whilst using their own language abilities and cultural competencies that are so valued and sought after. Milan is also hosting the Expo 2015 World Fair with the central theme of feeding the planet, energy for life, providing companies operating in a wide range of fields (from food and food biotechnologies to renewable energies and logistics) the chance to network, discuss trends and encourage business and growth. Cattolica students are in an excellent position to closely observe and discuss the planning of this key event. Yet despite the opportunities which accompany a busy and successful city, the essence of Milan is as true today as in centuries past. With the world-famous opera theatre La Scala, the imposing Duomo cathedral, the stunning Castello Sforzesco and the young and trendy Colonne di San Lorenzo all closeby, Milan marks its presence on the global cultural scene too. In short, Milan is a beautiful, cultured and dramatic city, offering a multitude of features that tourists rarely discover and an equal number of opportunities for International Students to develop their academic and professional careers.
Student services at Cattolica At Cattolica, International Students should never fear being alone. For many years, we have invested in a range of services which ensure that our international visitors are fully supported. From the moment students arrive, our objective is to guarantee that the unique Cattolica welcome is wide open to all. For many students this starts with a warm smile at the airport, and soon extends to a variety of orientation sessions and events. International Student Center On paper they are just names. But once you are enrolled at Cattolica, Floriana, Laura, Francesca, Annalisa and Danila will soon become your advisors, mentors and friends. The International Student Center team are not only responsible for promoting the attractions and benefits of Cattolica, they are there for the duration of your time at Cattolica. And beyond. International Students Associations The Erasmus Student Network (ESN) and the Exchange Student Erasmus Guide (ESEG), are two associations that organize numerous social and cultural events, tours and recreational activities. Furthermore they provide an invaluable support network. Tutoring Every degree-seeking student enrolled at the university will be paired with a tutor, whose responsibility is to assist him/her with integrating into the university environment and to provide support in case of need. Language support UCSC International offers specialized Italian language courses before and throughout the academic year for International Students wanting to improve their Italian language skills. Library Cattolica s library system is one of the most prestigious in Italy and the library in Milan, with volumes is the largest and oldest of the University. It is currently supported by all kinds of modern technology, including an electronic catalogue that can be consulted over the web. Consistent with the rest of the University s tendency to be unique, the library distinguishes itself from others by being entirely underground. There are networked stations dotted around campus which provide students the opportunity to check material availability and order without having to go to the library themselves. The campus also hosts, in one of its remarkable rooms, the rich and unique monographic library about Milan and Lombardy given to the University by Count Negri da Oleggio. It also contains some marble fragments from the spires of Milan Cathedral, bestowing the room, the alternative name the hall of marble. Sport Facilities The University s Center for Sports (CUS) is an association of students attending Milanese universities that manages various sport facilities and disciplines. The CUS information point is located on main campus (Largo Gemelli, 1). There is also a brand new, trendy and elegant gymnasium located just five minutes walking distance from UCSC, with brand new fitness equipment, sauna, swimming pool and squash courts. UCSC International in collaboration with Get Fit are offering gym subscriptions at a special price to Cattolica s International Students. Health Center The Cattolica Health Center provides all enrolled students medical care, nursing care and psychological counseling. General, specialist (gynecology, ophthalmology, diet) and preventative medical examinations are available to students. During the center s opening hours, the Nursing Service is always on hand to administer first aid, medication and prescribed drugs, measure blood pressure, take body temperature, provide information about local health services, and give health advice. Access is free, no appointment needed. I-Catt I-Catt is an intranet system for students and faculty that provides information about university services and news, course and schedule planning, exam registration, and much more

Italian higher education system The higher education system in Italy is structured into four different stages: Undergraduate degree/bachelor of Science B.Sc. ( Laurea Triennale e a Ciclo Unico ) Course duration: 3-years or 5-years ECTS/Credit points: 180 Aims to provide a solid foundation in the core subjects as well as more specialized, professional training. Students can either enter the job market or continue their studies by applying for a Master of Science or Specializing Master program. Graduate degree/master of Science M.Sc. ( Laurea Magistrale ) Course duration: 2-years ECTS/Credit points: 120 Undertaken after the undergraduate degree and aims to provide rigorous, advanced training in more highly specialized areas. 16 Specializing Master ( Master Universitario ) Course duration: 1-year ECTS/Credit points: 60 A professionalizing program providing practical knowledge and training through coursework and internships. These Master programs, within the Italian Education System do not generally allow access to a Ph.D program upon completion of the Masters. Recognition of the Specialising Masters towards a Ph.D. program outside of Italy will depend on local state regulations or individual doctoral programs. Doctoral Program - Ph.D. ( Dottorato di Ricerca ) Course duration: 3-years ECTS/Credit points: 180 Undertaken after the completion of a M.Sc. or an equivalent graduate degree. It aims to develop the professional competence to carry out high level research in manufacturing and service companies, public bodies and universities. A pathway to success.
