2 M.Sc. in Economics Program type: Graduate degree / Master of Science M.Sc. ( Laurea Magistrale ) Course duration: September September 2014 (2 years) Total ECTS: 120 The graduate degree in Economics is designed for students who wish to gain a theoretical and empirical knowledge of key economic principles. Students will be endowed with an in-depth understanding of recent economic issues and are expected to develop a high level of autonomy with regard to research and methodology. Learning objectives During the first year, compulsory core courses will give the students sound economics and quantitative methods foundations. The second year aims to take the students closer to the research frontier. Students will tackle interesting problems in economics by applying the tools learned during the first year. The program offers a choice of courses from different fields of economics with the purpose of finding a promising research topic and developing a final research description. Why Milan Milan is the undisputed financial capital of the country and with a driving economy that makes it the only gate to international capital markets. It has over 8,600 registered active national and international financial and insurance businesses. Out of these there are almost 200 main banking groups and over 40 foreign banks. The Lombard market for banking and financial services is based on 190 banks (almost a quarter of the national total). The Italian Stock Exchange (la Borsa Italiana), which has over 220 companies listed, is located 10 minutes away from our campus, a prime vicinity for Economics students. Why Economics at Cattolica The Faculty of Economics is one of Cattolica s 14 faculties and conducts teaching and research in the fields of economics, law, mathematics / statistics and business. One of the most important assets of the Faculty is its well-developed national and international network. In particular the program in Economics maintains close research links with national and international scholars, the business and financial community and policy makers. 4 and quantitative methods. Ideal candidates are applicants who hold a bachelor s degree with major in economics, mathematics, statistics or business studies. Applications from students who did not major in the aforementioned subjects will also be considered and the admission committee will evaluate the student s academic and personal background and decide if the specific conditions for admission to the graduate degree are met. In these cases, submission of an official report for the GRE or the GMAT test with a satisfactory performance level in the quantitative section would be very helpful for the admission evaluation. Language prerequisite For applicants whose first language is not English they will need to either: > Have an overall TOEFL / IBT score of at least 80 or an Academic IELTS overall score of at least 6.0 > Have successfully completed a degree program taught in the English language in a country where English is the official language; or > Take an English language test at Cattolica which could involve an oral interview.
