14 Logistics Industry Facts Logistician top 25 fastest growing career field, by 2018 more people retiring than available workers. Analysts project that the industry will need another one million employees by 2030, which will intensify the labor shortage. Automation will drive many new logistics jobs, and warehousing will require technology skills. Transportation and warehousing is up by 20 percent, and will generate 853,000 new jobs. The trucking industry also experiences shortages. Estimates suggest the driver shortages could balloon to 239,000 drivers by 2022.
15 AST&L Certification Programs Three internationally industry recognized stackable credentials: Certified in Transportation and Logistics (CTL) Senior Level Individuals with an undergraduate degree or a minimum of four years of professional experience seeking to keep up with the rapidly changing logistics environment. Professional Designation in Logistics and Supply Chain Management (PLS) Mid Level Community College graduates or new professionals seeking a deeper understanding of logistics and supply chain operations. Global Logistics Associate (GLA) Entry Level High school, community college, or non- industry professionals seeking a general knowledge of logistics and the associated functions.
16 AST&L Certification Pathway GLA Certification Offered as a self-study course, in-house training or at an AST&L endorsed concurrent program in a high school or community colleges. Obtaining the GLA requires successful completion of the online Tucker tutorial and a comprehensive exam. PLS Certification - Offered as a self-study course, in a cohort class or at an AST&L endorsed concurrent program in a high school or community colleges. Obtaining the PLS requires successful completion of a comprehensive exam. CTL Certification Offered as a self-study course, online, a cohort class or at an AST&L endorsed concurrent program. Obtaining the CTL requires successful completion of six comprehensive exams.

19 Gilda Ramirez, President PHPME Managing Director, Port of Houston Authority Small Business & Maritime Education Port of Houston Authority PO Box 2562 Houston, TX Gilda joined the Port of Houston in 2002, hired to develop and direct the newly created Small Business Development Division. She directed the formation and creation of Port of Houston Partners in Maritime Education, the non-profit organization that promotes and supports maritime education initiative in the local high schools surrounding the port. She is currently the President of PHPME. Gilda has a BA from Houston International University and has a Master Compliance Administrator certification and is a graduate of Boston College s Corporate Community Relations.
