13 Documentation and Data Analysis Gap Analysis Findings Regional deficiencies in the following areas: Aircraft Mechanics and Service Technicians Avionics Technicians Airline Pilots, Copilots, and Flight Engineers ATC Personnel and Dispatcher deficiencies o Smaller total number o Graduates of the FAA academy are dispatched to locations where staffing replacements are required o Surge of rehires after 1981 strike now approaching the mandatory retirement age of 58 Data Source: Texas Workforce Commission Employment Data projected from

14 Curriculum and Coordination Findings: Final Reports Recommended Curriculum Program Coordination Strategic Business Plan Aviation management, aviation flight, and aviation maintenance/technology management programs needed Curriculum reviewed for out-of-state schools ; Arizona State University, Purdue University, and the University of Louisiana, Monroe etc. Meant to be building blocks for a regional program - not intended to be reinvented Programs should be accredited by Aviation Accreditation Board International (AABI) 14

15 Program Coordination Create an integrated aviation education program serving the region and building on the strengths of existing programs Structure the education program to meet the needs of the students: accessible, affordable, and results-oriented Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) allows institutions to enter into joint partnership agreements to develop degree programs and share faculty and facilities Examples of programmatic partnerships include: Joint Degree Program Cooperative Degree Program Research Partnerships Joint Faculty Appointments 15

18 Use of Social Media and Internet Use of internet is a heavy component and should be used for all outreach Online updates and resources Interactive career pathways Course offerings and degree programs Presently around 70% of Twitter users are using it for business purposes 18
