2 MIDDLE SCHOOL HIGH SCHOOL POSTSECONDARY WORK TRANSITIONING BACK CollegeInColorado.org Portal: Career, High School, Postsecondary, Financial Aid Exploration and Planning, Money 101 Financial Literacy courses with online individual portfolio and accompanying platforms to assist professionals with monitoring, reporting and implementation. CIC s outreach team and events focus on support and training for students, families, and education and workforce professionals. CIC Companion sites for specific populations: Colorado ASSET, Own Your Future site for ex- and youth-offenders (project in process for use within prisons), Foster Youth website. Individual Career and Academic Plan: Support implementation; students, parents and professionals, creating their ICAP including career and job exploration, academic planning, financial literacy and setting postsecondary and workforce goals/milestones. College Admissions Tool: Interactive planning and analysis tool (nearing deployment) to help students and parents understand and prepare for the updated admissions policy standards for four-year institutions. Colorado GEAR UP: Full-time advisors in 2 dozen+ schools; college preparation and success. The Colorado Challenge: Intensive advising, strategic monitoring, collaborative guidance at 7 institutions. CDHE and partners: Career and Postsecondary Pathways Implementation Initiatives Colorado Scholarship Initiative: increase and support the network of student success programs in the State through program grant funding. Postsecondary Portals: PlanYourHealthCareer.org and PowerUpColorado.org; Career, Postsecondary Planning and job preparation, for health professions (5 states) and energy (Colorado). Eligible Training Providers List in development with Dept. of Labor and Employment: Application and tracking engine for WIOA funding, oversight agency verification, performance data collection and analysis with public-facing posting of program participant job-related achievement among other performance statistics. Colleges, Division of Private Occupational Schools, Real Estate, Nursing, Apprenticeships any Provider of training statewide. Additional Industry Sector websites: To be developed under career pathways legislation; three additional industry sectors in partnership with CDLE, workforce council, employers/industry. Job Skills Report/Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System: Analyzing and providing 1560 information Broadway, from Suite completion 1700, Denver data and CO workforce projections. Skills report isolates jobs with high projected growth rates and job openings with sustainable living wages.

3 College In Colorado Pathways exploration and planning on our comprehensive career, postsecondary, financial aid and financial literacy Web portal including lifelong portfolio and professional center. More than 350,000 middle and high school student accounts; Outreach and access team to support students, parents and professionals with website use and financial aid; Statewide events including College Application Month, College Goal Sunday, College Friday; Customization and implementation system for Individual Career and Academic Planning;

4 CIC Companion Sites and Support Focused on providing information and support to students and families with specific career/college pathway challenges. Partnership with DOC to implement use of the Own Your Future website (life skills, career/job, education planning) with ex- and youth-offenders as they leave incarceration in development for use within prisons; Colorado ASSET website to assist families and students understand ASSET provisions and college opportunities for students without documentation; Partnership with Dept. of Human Services in progress on a site for foster youth and supporting adults; Julia.Pirnack@cic.state.co.us

5 College Admissions Tool Nearing completion: Interactive information and support to students and families regarding the new four-year college admissions standards (to be implemented by 2019). Comprehensive exploration of postsecondary pathways including apprenticeship, direct to work, military, occupation/technical but focused on two- and four-year institutions in Colorado; Discover college expectations when evaluating and admitting students; Student can compare goal or actual GPA, test score, high school coursework to colleges expectations; Student can set up and track plans for improvement; Maintain college-specific preparation and application to-do lists;

6 The Colorado Challenge: Our goal: to increase persistence and four year graduation rates for low-income, first generation students; Our methods: intensive advising, collaborative guidance, and strategic data tracking and monitoring; Intensive Advising: Advisors work with students throughout their college career, focusing on academic advising, soft skill development (time management, finances, etc.), emotional and social adjustment to college life, and additional logistical and quotidian concerns college students encounter. 6

7 The Colorado Challenge: Population and Institutions Institutions: Adams State University, Colorado State University, Colorado State University- Pueblo, Community College of Aurora, Community College of Denver, Metropolitan State University, University of Colorado Denver Non-profit organizations: Colorado GEAR UP, the Denver Scholarship Foundation, the Daniels Fund 7

8 GEAR UP Federally-funded grant program placing full-time advisors in more than two dozen schools across the state. We start with middle-school students, teaching them college basics and taking them for campus visits. By high school, our students are taking college courses and building confidence in the future.

9 GEAR UP Results Colorado GEAR UP students graduate high school having earned an average of 17 college credits. 87 percent of Colorado GEAR UP students graduated from high school compared to a statewide graduation rate of 72 percent. 84 percent enrolled in college the fall after high school graduation compared to a statewide enrollment rate of 67 percent. 81 percent persisted through their first year of college compared to a statewide average retention rate of 70 percent. 10 The Colorado Scholarship The Scholarship is meant to help align resources, promote best practices and support educators who already help students earn credentials and necessary job skills The first phase of the Scholarship Initiative seeks to increase and improve the network of student success programs for Colorado's high school and post-high school students. The Colorado Opportunity Scholarship Initiative will commit to a series of multiyear grants throughout the state toward programs that will help prepare students for postsecondary education, as well as support them through completion. In December 2014, the Scholarship Initiative distributed $3.4M in program grants shelley.woodson@dhe.state.co.us to set up an informational meeting with the Colorado Opportunity Scholarship Initiative.

11 CIC and partners Postsecondary Portals In partnership with the Colorado Community College System under TACCT 1, developed an Energy Hub for adults in the workforce exploring the Energy sector and programs built for attaining training in this industry; In partnership with the CHEO five-state consortium under TACCT II, developed a Health Hub for adults in the workforce exploring the health industry and colleges/programs built for attaining training in this industry; Both included tools/features such as career pathways maps, skills gap analysis tool and connections to business employment and extended learning opportunities interface. 12 CIC/DHE and CDLE Eligible Training Providers List In partnership with CDLE and under federal WIOA requirements, an application, oversight verification and performance data tracking system is being developed; Multi-level review and WIOA funding allocation tracking for any entity providing training statewide; Provider performance data analysis of student job and credential attainment; Public posting of Provider training/educational opportunities and their aggregated performance information on CIC and CDLE websites.
