The Augusta Public Schools academic offerings are well-rounded with quality academic programs in physical education, foreign languages (6-12), health, and technology. For each of these disciplines a sequential comprehensive and coordinated academic program is in place to help students meet their highest potential. The academic areas of study are enhanced by a myriad of student support programs that address the needs of various students. They are: Special Education Program, Gifted and Talented Program, Guidance Program, Library Media Program, English as a Second Language Program, Alternative Programs, and the regional Vocational Program. The academic program is guided by a set of Student Expectations that were approved by the Augusta School Board in April The Student Expectations are the broad educational goals from which all curricula are derived. In developing curricula, the Augusta Public Schools build curricula so that each curriculum is sequential, measurable, and consistent across grade levels in the district. The curricula are fluid documents that are re-examined periodically to meet the needs of a changing society, to reflect best practices in education, and to meet State Learning Results and national standards.
