7 Lessons learnt : Positives The end-2-end service model developed is clearly meeting a demand on the market. Originally built up to target the SME business, the demand has now expanded to the residential via CBOs and corporate markets. 8 Lessons learnt : Negatives The combined effects of the expected market price and current cost structure are making the viability of the current economical model very questionable. Equivalent DSL services are seriously influencing the price of the services including in geographic area where broadband via satellite is the only solution available The space segment capacity is the critical cost element and clearly prevents to price the service in order to scale the business Equipment prices remain to high to address the lower end market segments Excessive cost of operation due to the complexity of the installation and the relatively poor reliability of the CPE compared to the DSL equivalent seriously impacts the operational margin

9 Perspectives In Western Europe, the conjunction of different factors will make it very difficult or even impossible for the service providers to make the current business model viable whilst there is a real demand for our services. The industry has still to build up an overall business model whereby all key players will find the right balance among themselves [space segment/ technology/service providers]. Provided that this model materializes soon, Aramiska will keep investing in service development and delivery in order to address the existing and emerging market segments not only in the countries where Aramiska is active now but all over Europe as well.
