2 Background Information In October of 2010, Four Corners In October of 2010, Four Corners Health Department launched a community assessment project that will have lasting effects for the entire public health system in the district. 15 2011 Community Health Survey Additional Comments provided by Butler County Survey Respondents Medical Can get into clinic same day usually. We're mostly a "small town" with the advantage of location close enough to have access to great health care providers and are benefiting from good decisions about health care. I strongly agree that we have a very good medical system. Overall, I think we do well in our county but I think that people need to understand the importance of taking care of themselves. Exercise, eat healthy, and set an example to younger families of the importance of children's vaccinations and proper nutrition. Health costs seem very high. No care providers for homecare. We need to do a community weight loss program. Need to advertise more regarding support networks for individuals and families. Late night health care was very, very poor on the one trip we were there with our children (hospital and doctor). Cost of medical care is astronomical even with insurance. Elderly often times must travel out of town for appointments and procedures. Even elderly living in rural areas have no access to transportation to get to their medical appointments. 16 We have had several misdiagnoses when going to the Butler Health Clinic - and when seeing another doctor (out of town), they ve given the right diagnosis and have treated us/our children accordingly with better results. Butler County seems to have a lot of cancer pts. Is the water unsafe or maybe too many pesticides used in farming? Being overweight is an issue. Cost of medical care is higher here then at a larger community with more available tests & medical staff with more knowledge and experience. I feel the cost of health care is outrageous anywhere. It's hard for middle & low income families even with insurance. We need access to cheaper health care for families with low income. Due to the fact that I'm dissatisfied with the health care in Butler Co., I choose to go to more reliable care specialists in Platte Co Employment Not many jobs (to offer lasting careers). There aren t a lot of jobs available. We only have three businesses in town. Community While we're a "small town", we've lost the sense of community which goes with it. But that's normal now. I believe lots of us think we can make the community better, and are doing so, but by no means do all of us think so. I feel we have a relatively safe community in which to have our families. We are very happy with the David City community. It's nice to see such pride and unity. I love living in David City. I was not born & raised here but it is home. 17 I think it is very hard to feel welcome when you move here. Maybe we could use a welcoming committee with a packet of social events middle age people can become involved in. I know of some professionals who moved here from out of state & are still having a hard time fitting in. This community is too clicky. Either you belong or you're looked down upon. Too many fake people competing to see who has the best things. It is a good place to raise kids and grow old. It is safe and a "quiet" community. Communication - letting the communities know what is available in terms of programs, resources, etc. What works or is available in one county may not be embraced or available in another. The rural counties are going to need to pool resources now and in the future to provide all types of services and move away from county defined opportunities if we want to keep and serve the population. Education / Youth There are no elementary after school programs offered by our school. Middle and High School students have too many after-school demands on time. Our community needs more after school programs for teens. Adult involvement is a must. We really like the school systems! Educational facilities are nice. Recreation for children/entertainment for teenagers - not much is available outside of the school system (Bowling, movies, etc.). Better meal programs for the aging.
