1 I. TELECOMMUNICATIONS GENERAL REQUIREMENTS A. The project consists of a renovation to the historic Clinical Sciences building, originally built in The existing building has a total area of 105,000 square feet. The upgrade work shows level 0 as existing utility spaces, storage, and multipurpose rooms. Level 1 consists of classrooms and conference rooms, levels 2-7 is office spaces and meeting rooms. B. All work shall be performed in compliance with the most restrictive of Municipal, State, and/or Federal Codes which may govern this work and shall conform to the following codes and standards: 1. Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). TELECOMMUNICATIONS PATHWAYS A. Pathway Systems 1. Demolition: Remove existing OSP cable in conflict with the buildings demolition scope. 2. Interbuilding Conduit: a. Site underground conduit will be placed to the building BDF. The BDF will be connected through two distinct paths connecting the two campus Main Distribution Centers (MDC). Three 4" conduits will be placed for each MDC pathway to the campus infrastructure point of connection (POC). b. Each conduit will have four 1" HDPE, SDR11 innerduct: red. white, blue and black. Existing innerduct will be used in existing conduit where available. New Innerduct will be installed as required for cable installation. 3. 3 III. a. All conduits, fittings, back boxes, and pull boxes will conform to UL Standard 514. All fittings will have nylon insulated throats. b. Riser conduit will be installed from the BDF to the 1st floor IDF. Three 4" conduits will be provided with 4 1" innerduct in each conduit. Conduit radius bends shall not be less than 48". c. The riser shall be stacked from the 1st floor to the 7th floor. The stack at each floor shall have a 4 square foot floor slot for riser and horizontal cable. The slot shall be located on the same wall as the door. 4. Cable Tray a. Cable tray will be installed above the ceiling on each floor to convey horizontal structured cabling to the BDF, CPF and IDF rooms. b. Tray will be sized to support double the initial horizontal cable. c. Trays will be equipped with dividers, to separate data cable from security cable systems. d. Trays will be equipped with factory 24" radius bends. e. Trays will be supported from structure a minimum of 8" above ceiling. 5. Conduit Sleeves: a. Fire Rated Conduit sleeves will be provided to exit the BDF, IDF and CPF rooms, and through sheer or rated walls in the building for distribution of the structured cabling. b. Quantity of sleeves will be provided at 40% of the area of the sleeve to be equal to 50% of the cable tray area. 6. Workstation Conduits a. Conduits shall be 1.25" to the workstation outlet and terminate above the ceiling or at the cable tray. Conduit shall terminate in 4-11/16" back boxes. All conduits at the ceiling shall be fitted with nylon fittings. BACKBONE CABLE A. Interbuilding Fiber: 1. Site singlemode fiber cable shall be provided from each MDC to the BDF. MDC-S15 is located at the Medical Sciences Building, 513 Parnassus Ave, Room S15. MDC-AC50 is located at the Ambulatory Care Center, 400 Parnassus Ave, Room AC Each SMF will consist of 36 strands. 3. All fiber shall be fusion spliced at both ends to factory terminated SCPC pigtails and placed in fiber termination panels. 4. Each fiber shall be tested bi-directionally at 1310nm with a light source and power meter. B. Interbuilding Fire Alarm Fiber. 1. Fire Alarm singlemode fiber cable shall be provided from an adjacent buildings BDF (TBD) to the BDF. The fiber will be placed in red 1" innerduct. 4 IV. 2. Each SMF will consist of 12 strands. 3. All fiber shall be fusion spliced at both ends to factory terminated pigtails and placed in a wall mounted ADC-FL1000 panel. 4. Each fiber shall be tested bi-directionally at 1310nm with a light source and power meter. C. Intrabuilding Riser Fiber Cable 1. Install 72 strands of SMF to each IDF room from the BDF. 2. Install 6 strand SMF to the BMS office from the BDF. 3. Each fiber shall be placed in 1" innerduct. 4. All fiber shall be fusion spliced at both ends to factory terminated LC pigtails and placed in fiber termination panels. 5. Each fiber shall be tested bi-directionally at 1310nm with a light source and power meter. D. Interbuilding Copper Cable: 1. New copper cable will originate from the campus AT&T MPOE. 2. Install (2 ea. 100 pair) ANMA cables... Each cable will be placed in 1.25" innerduct. 3. Cables will be spliced to 100 pair protector panels at both ends with 5 pin fuses. Output of the protectors will terminate on AT&T VisiPatch Termination Blocks. 4. Crossconnect 50% of the copper cable at the MPOE. 5. Test all pairs for continuity, opens and shorts. E. Intrabuilding Riser Copper Cable 1. Provide 50 pair CMR cable to each IDF from the BDF. Cables shall be placed in 1" innerduct. 2. Terminate cables at both ends on AT&T VisiPatch termination blocks. 3. Crossconnect 50% of the Interbuilding copper cable to the riser cable (33 pair each riser) at the BDF. 4. Test all pairs for continuity, opens and shorts. TELECOMMUNICATIONS SPACES A. Telecommunications Spaces Rooms: 1. BDF: The Building Distribution Facility (BDF) will be located in the basement. The room will serve as the entrance facility for all campus site cable, riser distribution and the horizontal distribution for the basement IDF. The room will be equipped with equipment racks, and overhead cable runway. Walls will be covered with fire rated plywood. 2. IDF: The Intermediate Distribution Facility (IDF) will be located on the 2nd, 4th and 6th floors (or as coordinated with the architect). The room will serve as the horizontal cable distribution for the floor located on and below. The room will be equipped with equipment racks, and overhead cable runway. 5 3. CPF: The Cable Pass Through Facility (CPF) will be located on the 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th floors (or as coordinated with the architect). This room allows for passing riser cable through the IDF stack and horizontal cable installation to the floors below the IDF. Walls will be covered with fire rated plywood. B. Telecommunications Ground 1. The telecommunications ground will be provided from the BDF to the 6th floor IDF. 2. The Main Ground Bus Bar (TMGB) will be located in the BDF. A copper bus will be routed through the riser system and connect to the Telecom Grounding Busbar (TGB) at each IDF. The TMGB will be bonded to the electrical facility. 3. Stranded #6 copper will be used to bond overhead cable runway, equipment racks, conduit, cable shielding and building steel to the TMGB and TGB. V. STRUCTURED CABLE A. Structured Cable system cabling: 1. The system shall be Systemax category 6. All cable will be routed in conduit, Cable Tray and J-hooks. 2. Cable shall terminate on category 6 IDC jacks at the workstation and on VisiPatch termination blocks at the IDF. 3. Systemax XL7 Line cords shall be provided and installed for each cable installed at the workstation. 4. Patch cords shall be provided for each cable installed at the IDF. IDF cords shall be Systemax 119 cords between the VisiPatch and the network switch. B. Network Switches 1. Install owner provided network switches and interconnect to the structured cabling. C. Wireless Access Points 1. Install owner furnished wireless access points. Install 1 for every 750GSF. D. VoIP Telephone Sets 1. Install owner furnished VoIP telephone hand sets and interconnect each set to the Network switches at the IDF and the hand set to the data jack.
