1 Straightforward Practice Online guide for Teachers Activating your token Go to online.com If you have not activated your token, click on Enter your token details Your token is found in the back of your Teacher s Book. Enter your unique token and the security letters You will then be prompted to create your profile and password. Accessing your Practice Online online.com Enter your address here. Enter the password you selected when you activated your token here. Click Login If you have more than one Practice Online course activated, you will need to select the course you want to open from the list.

2 Setting up a class As a teacher you can create a class for your students to join. Once the student has joined your class you can see the course content your students have access to, view their progress and scores. To set up a class: 1. From the Classes tab, click on Add a class 2. Fill in each box and choose which courses you would like to add to the class 3. You can change the Password of your class if necessary. The password must be unique. 4. Click on Submit when you are finished 5. Click on the cross to close the class. 6. You will now see your class in the Classes area. Inviting students to join classes After students have activated their Practice Online token, they can be added to your class. To do this you need to share your class unique password with them. To find the password: 1. From the home page click on the title of the course 2. Click on GO TO CLASS

3 3. Click Edit class details. When the student logs in, they click on Join a class then enter the password. Once your students have joined, you will see the course content your students have access to,view their progress and scores. Courses There are over 100 ready to use Macmillan Practice Online courses. Courses are resources grouped together so that your students can follow a cohesive syllabus. Some courses have been built around Macmillan course books and others are standalone courses such as CEFR, business English, academic English or exam practice. Macmillan Practice Online courses are divided into items. If the course accompanies a Macmillan course book, the items will have the same names as the chapter or unit titles of the book. Some courses are sub divided into Units. This is often the case when a group of topics are followed by a review for that part of the course. To see further detail, click on the title of each item in your course. You will see descriptions of language areas that are being covered and a list of resources.

4 To access the resources in a course, you can either: 1. Click on the name of the course on the left hand side and then click on the item you would like to go to. 5 The scores are recorded as a percentage except for certain types of exercises which, if completed, only show as Viewed. To access your messages click on the envelope in the top right corner. If you have any unread messages a number will appear next to the icon indicating how many. 6 Macmillan English Dictionary Online (MEDO) To access the Macmillan English Dictionary Online click on Dictionary in the top right corner of your screen. The dictionary will open up in a separate window. Write your entry in the search box at the top left of the page and click Go. If there is more than one result, click on the word you require. You will see the definition, an example sentence, and have the option to listen to American and British pronunciation. Some entries have clickable images.
