2 LGfL Introduction LGfL is a web-based system that allows you to write, send, receive, delete, forward, and find . It has been developed with the help and advice of Lancashire schools and can be accessed with a user ID and password. Users who access their LGfL through Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express will see no change to their system at all and will be able to continue to use their system as normal. Those users who access their via the LGfL (SunMail) web interface will find their usernames and passwords will remain the same for the LGfL system. These users will find a much improved and more intuitive system. LGfL has many other benefits including: a spell check facility automatically virus scanning s a comprehensive online help feature. Additional features of the new system will be launched over the next few months including access to from home and the ability for schools to create, delete and suspend individual user accounts. Users will also see a different login screen. The following pages will help you become accustomed to using the new system. Logging on Go to the LGfL home page ( and click on the Service. The login screen will appear (as seen below) and you must type in your user ID and your password details in the spaces provided and click on login. Remember your user ID should be lower-case and it will not contain symbol while the password is case sensitive. Extensive extra information on logging in can be found via help (see below). You can also change your password once you have logged into LGfL (see the Changing your password section in this guide).
3 Getting to know the interface The diagram below shows the key features of the interface and gives a short description on its function.
4 Getting new messages To receive your new messages click on the Get Mail icon. The messages will appear in your Inbox as a list. Reading messages To read messages click on the Inbox tab and a list of your messages will appear. The list will show who sent the , subject, date of receipt, and the size of the message (see below). It will also show whether there is an attachment (paperclip icon) or the priority of the message (exclamation mark icon). An envelope appears next to all unread s. Click on the subject title (see above) of the you want to read and the will open. To close this and return to the Inbox, click on Close. To view the next message click on Next or click on Previous to see the previous message you viewed. Writing a new message When you need to write or compose a new message you must first click on the Compose icon. The compose window will appear like the one below. Type in the recipients address in the To: box. If you want to send a copy of this message to another person then you can add their address in the Cc: box. If you want to send this message to another person but don t want the other recipients to see you have sent it to them then fill in their address in the Bcc:
5 (blind copy) box. Fill in the subject box with the title of your and type your message in the large box below. Once you are happy with the contents of your message click on the Send icon to send your message. There are many extra features of the compose window such as Spell Check, Priority and Address. More information on these features can be found in the online help section of LGfL . Attaching a document to an You can send a file attached to your message. The file could be on your computer or even on a disk connected to your computer. The first step is to click on the attach icon (the paperclip). The attachment dialogue box will appear (see below this section). You must now find the file on your computer or your disk by clicking on Browse. Click on the file and then click on Open. On the attachment dialogue box click Add and then Attach and the file will attach to your message. Note the original file will still remain in place on your computer. You can attach other files with your message but the total size of your message including attachments should not exceed 5 MB.
6 Reading an attachment to an If an has an attachment a paperclip will appear next to the message. Open up the message that has the attachment (see Reading messages ). Click on the attached file which can be found next to Attachments in the header part of the message (see below). The file will then open up. Changing your password To change your password you must first click on the Options tab. This brings up the menu seen below on the left-hand side. From this menu click on Password and enter your old password in the top box. You then need to enter the password of your choice in the new password boxes 2 and 3 (see below). Click on the Change Password button to complete the process. Please use a password you can easily remember. LGfL online help If you require any more information please use LGfL online help.
