3 ALL ABOUT AUDIENCE RESPONSE SYSTEM (ARS) Audience response system is a tool that helps to create interactivity between the presenter and the audience. It even allows participants at a meeting or an event to respond to questions and their opinions to go in sync with the surveys or the list presented. In this era when business meetings, seminars, webinars etc have become the basic solution of any planning, decision making and strategy implementation, audience response in an all makes it possible with its various traditional tools as well as next generation online audience response system. Audience response systems create an active environment among the participants and increase their participation to a great extent. Also, it helps provide instant results and feedback to the presenter and participants. The immediate responses from an ARS helps and can be used to confirm audience understanding of key points, their opinions, key takeaways etc. With the change in time, seminars or in-person meetings were supported by traditional ARS; whereas webinars need to be supported by some new-age tool (online ARS). 5 SCOPE OF TRADITIONAL AUDIENCE RESPONSE SYSTEM Traditional audience response systems are majorly used in Classrooms In-person meetings or seminars In classrooms, it gives faculty the ability to fine-tune their instruction based on student responses. In large halls or so, the presenters get the proper outcome of their presentation with the use of traditional ARSs such as clickers, slammers or buzzers etc Personal-response technology works well both for large lecture halls and for smaller classes. Problem with clickers, slammers or buzzers occur when people go online and these device couldn t respond to the scenario. Figure 1: Features of Traditional ARS Copyright 2011, Harbinger Knowledge Products 5
6 WEB-BASED AUDIENCE RESPONSE SYSTEM FOR ONLINE MEETINGS With the communication and presentations going online, the audience response system went to a significant level with the web-based ARS. Primary usage of these kind include Webinars Web based meetings Distance Learning Online Polls or Surveys When used in classrooms, in-person seminars or meetings, web-based ARS adds wings to the performance and interaction levels, making it more viable. 7 YAWNBUSTER CONNECT AS THE NEW WEB-BASED ARS Few points where YawnBuster Connect scores over traditional ARS are Use of mobile devices or laptops instead of traditional ARS like clickers, slammers or buzzers. No hardware, maintenance or repair required. Ideal tool for online meetings Enables qualitative information capture and analysis In a nutshell, YawnBuster Connect is an ARS that will help presenters keep their audience s attention, increase knowledge retention and confirm the understanding of the audience. YawnBuster Connect redefines interaction levels in presentation sessions. It can be referred as the next generation of online audience response systems (ARS). It allows people to easily and affordably engage & interact with their audience worldwide. This advanced audience response system allows teachers, presenters or speakers to gather observe and instantly share audience responses in real time without the need of any traditional audience responders like clickers or slammers etc YawnBuster Connect works for both online meetings and webinars as well as inperson seminars and lectures. Attendees need just a mobile device or a laptop to become an active part of the session. The audience can interact with the presentation by simply visiting a URL on their mobile phone or laptop's web browser. Copyright 2011, Harbinger Knowledge Products 7
8 REACH OF AUDIENCE RESPONSE SYSTEM Figure 2: ARS Positioning As presented, x axis denotes the audience type & y axis refers to the measure of audience response. Traditional ARS are placed in Quadrant III as they are used in the In-Person/Local meetings where the ARS hand-held devices could be easily used & can collect a good amount of data; whereas YawnBuster Connect can also be placed into the same Quadrant with the fact laptops and mobile devices with internet connections are easily available in in-person meetings as well. In the perspective of online meetings, YawnBuster Connect are majorly placed with higher qualitative response in the Quadrant I. It has already gained the position with the higher number of quantitative responses. Copyright 2011, Harbinger Knowledge Products 8

10 SUMMARY In the current era of live and interactive presentations, audience response systems (ARS) have proven out to be a boon. The whole gamut of presentations took a new turn with the introduction of the traditional ARSs such as clickers, slammers etc. Once thought to be nearly impossible at a station; voting, surveys, meetings and seminars gained a new life with the live stream inclusion of audiences. Further, with the online audience response system, YawnBuster Connect has come out as the web based ARS that lets presenters do the same thing for their online meetings and webinars: collect, view and instantly share responses in real time without the usage of traditional audience clicker pads or any software installation for viewers. The easy and proficient procedure of this software has made it a prominent name in the audience response system industry. Outshining the various challenges that were faced by the audience response, YawnBuster Connect has come out to be very user friendly tool for an efficient presentation. In a nutshell, YawnBuster Connect is a wholesome pack of abstracts like view, share and interact and that too in real time!
