Primary Investigator for a Pilot Seed Grant ($25,000) funded by Washington State University's Rural Mental Health And Substance Abuse Treatment (RHMSAT) Center of Excellence. This is an open pilot study designed to test the feasibility and acceptability of a telephone-delivered behavioral activation and problem-solving psychotherapy to rural Iraq and Afghanistan veterans with posttraumatic stress disorder and alcohol misuse, with or without co-morbid depression. Cooperative Studies Project 566: Neuropsychological and mental health outcomes of OIF: A longitudinal cohort study. Site Investigator for Department of Veteran Affairs CSP 566 ($7,800,000), a two-site research study examining health effects of the Iraq War, especially those effects involving mental health. This study is a follow-up to the Neurocognition Deployment Health Study (NDHS). The specific purpose of CPS566 is to find out more about the longer
3 lasting effects of war on mood and stress symptoms, thinking and reaction skills, and different aspects of day to day life, such as work and daily activities (Primary Investigator: Jennifer Vasterling, PhD). Implementing Collaborative Care for Depression Plus PTSD in Primary Care. Co-investigator for a Department of Veteran Affairs Merit Award ($621,207) to evaluate the implementation process of a collaborative care approach for depression modified to also address co-morbid PTSD in Veterans enrolled in VA primary care (Primary Investigator: Bradford Felker, MD). FUNDED RESEARCH (COMPLETED): Behavioral Activation as an Efficacious and Accessible Treatment for Depression and PTSD Among OIF/OEF Veterans. Site Investigator for a Department of Veterans Affairs Merit Award ($402,300) to conduct a randomized treatment trial of Behavioral Activation delivered in the primary care context compared to usual care delivered in specialty mental health clinic for veterans with posttraumatic stress disorder with or without co-morbid major depressive disorder (Primary Investigator: Amy Wagner, PhD). Telephone Based Outpatient Care for OIF/OEF Veterans with PTSD. Co-Investigator for a VA funded pilot grant ($76,500) to examine the benefits telephone care management augmentation for OIF/OEF veterans receiving outpatient PTSD treatment at VA Puget Sound Health Care System. (Primary Investigator: Bradford Felker, M.D). Improving Access to and Quality of Mental Healthcare for OIF/OEF Veterans.
