This course provides basic mathematical computational and reasoning skills that are used in many other disciplines as well as later mathematics courses including trigonometry and calculus. CATALOG DESCzuPTION Polynomial and rational expressions; radicals and rational cxponents; equations and inequalities; real functions and their graphs; one-to-one and inverse functions; exponential and logarithmic functions; complex numbers and zeros of polynornials; linear systems and matrices; geometric transformations and conic sections; topics in discrete mathematics; applications. IV. MAJOR LEARNING OUTCOMES Upon completion of this course a student will be able to: A. Demonstrate proficiency in simplifuing and performing addition, subtraction, multiplication and division with absolute value, polynomial, cxponont, radical, and rational cxprcssions. Demonstrate proficiency in working with the various representations of functions: equations in two variables,f(x) notation, graphs, verbal descriptions, and tables of values. E. Identify, construct, and interpret functions to model real-world situations. F. Identify key features of, sketch, and intcrpret the graphs oflinear, quadratic, exponential, Iogarithmic, the reciprocal, and square root functions, as well as conic sections, using transformations, symmetry, intercepts, and asymptotes. G. Apply matrices to solve systems of linear equations. H. Find complex zeros of polynomials and usc the zeros to analyze and graph polynomial functions. L Apply the propcrties of exponcntial and logarithmic functions to solve equations and real-world problems. J.
