TM What Hope Looks Like There is Hope When someone you love is addicted to drugs or alcohol, the whole family suffers. The person you once loved turns into someone terrifying. The lies are constant. Money and valuables are missing. Very often, there are threats, abuse, abandonment or homelessness. The news you never want to hear is that they overdosed or were arrested. Families trying to save the life of an addicted person live with this heartbreak and terror for years, sometimes decades. They try to help the person with rehab but one program after another fails to bring about lasting sobriety. The terror can finally end at a Narconon drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility. This commonsense, drug-free rehab program is based on science and proven by excellent results over forty-five years of delivery. Every day, around the world, families are welcoming back their loved ones who had been lost to addiction to prescription pills, alcohol, heroin, marijuana, cocaine or other drugs. 1
Returning to Sobriety Since 1966, the Narconon drug and alcohol rehabilitation program has been putting people s feet on a path to a sober new life. For most people, a long-term recovery program is needed to bring about the changes needed for lasting sobriety after addiction. The Narconon program takes most people three to five months, but some may need more time to recover. Step-by-Step Healing There are several phases that address the destruction caused by addiction. First, a person must find relief from the intense cravings that overwhelm his ability to think rationally and then he can start learning a new pattern of survival, step by step. How Sobriety is Built on the Narconon Program: Reduce or even eliminate physical cravings while brightening outlook and clarifying thinking Restore perceptions and self-control Bring back a person s integrity and self-determinism Teach problem-solving and a restored sense of morals 2 3
Drug Detoxification The Narconon program utilizes an exercise and sauna detoxification program to help each person flush out stored residues from past drug and alcohol abuse. These residues have been shown to help trigger cravings and destroy one s brightness and alertness. How the Toxins are Eliminated Each person spends time daily exercising moderately, taking an exact regimen of nutritional supplements and sitting in the sauna with many breaks to cool off. As the drug residues are flushed out, one s mood and energy begins to improve. His thinking becomes less affected by past drugs and the experiences associated with them. Bringing Back the Brightness For many families, this is where they begin to see their loved ones start to come back. 4 5
Boost Perceptions and Self-Control Families see unwelcome changes in their loved ones as drug abuse takes its toll. An addicted person is so unaware of his surroundings that he may miss things right in front of him. To him (or her), a helpful person may look like a threat. He also has no self-control when it comes to using drugs. If they are in front of him, he s going to use them. Part of putting a person stably back on his feet is brightening his awareness of his real surroundings. Then he needs to regain excellent control of his own decisions and actions. While I was using drugs, I was constantly battling things that happened in the past and worrying about the future. As I worked through this step, I really felt a change come over me. I saw myself in a way that I never have before. I am so much more happy and confident than I ve ever been in my life. S.B. I can honestly say how much more aware I am of my surroundings now and also how easy it has become to think clearly and rationally before I make a decision in my life. N.M. This is the next phase of recovery on the Narconon program. Through a series of unique exercises, each person regains a fresh, new perception of his environment and world. Positive self-control becomes innate again. The past has less effect on him and he lives much more in the present. 6 7
I feel great again and proud. I m not a bad person at all. I am happy and helping. Getting all this stuff off my chest feels great. I m reborn. J.B. I feel much better, happier, more me. I can talk to others better. I can look them in the eye comfortably. My mind seems clearer. I want this feeling for everyone. J.S. Return of Self-Determinism & Integrity Recovering Honesty & Responsibilty Normally, when a person descends into drugs, he also falls in with drug dealers and drug-using associates. His integrity is destroyed by the neglectful, harmful, dishonest things he does. When he recovers the ability to make his own decisions, he is less likely to be swayed by the negative influences of dangerous associates. As his integrity is restored, he accepts responsibility for his actions once again. In this part of the program, each person is helped to examine the harm he has done to himself and others. Using a unique process, he finds relief from guilt associated with these past acts, leaving shame behind, enabling him to live a new, honest life. 8 9
Learning Problem-Solving, Improving Moral Conduct In the final section of the Narconon rehab program, each person learns how to actually deal with problems, setbacks and stresses which unconfronted, might at one time have caused him (or her) to relapse. Being fired from a job, a business downturn, a broken relationship, a bad argument at one time, these were the cause or trigger for a drug binge. Learning simple formulas for resolving life s difficulties, a person gains stability in his sobriety. The very last life skill covered is a renewal of one s own personal moral code. Learning that happiness results from living an ethical and moral life steadies a person and helps him make the right choices. I ve had my values and morals reinstilled so that I can be healthy and active in my new sober state. I am looking forward to the rest of my life. A.G. I am taking this information home with me for it is the true formula for success. N.S
How to Find Help for Someone You Love Unfortunately, millions of families around the world are struggling with the addiction of a loved one. The Narconon program offers a way to put an end to the struggle. For many people, it also puts an end to the need for repeated trips to rehab. As a person progresses through the Narconon drug recovery program, each step prepares her for what she is going to face on the next step. And each step adds to the wins already achieved, with the final result being a return of integrity and ability to enjoy a productive life. To help someone you love walk forward into a new, sober and honest life, contact Narconon today. Learn why Narconon can be the last rehab you ever need. Call

How the Narconon Program Started The addict has been found not to want to be an addict, but is driven by pain and environmental hopelessness. L. Ron Hubbard L. Ron Hubbard discovered how drug residues left in the body can affect one s thinking for years and then developed a method for eliminating them. This discovery turned out to be essential to the recovery of an addicted person. He also provided the tools to rehabilitate a person s ability to communicate and live a moral life. These and other humanitarian achievements are essential to making the Narconon program effective. Mr. Hubbard is also known for Dianetics and Scientology. Narconon uses Mr Hubbard s works, but is a completely secular (non-religious) program. William Benitez Willie was an ex-heroin addict whose addiction kept winding him back in the Arizona state prison. He studied in the prison library, looking for solutions and came across a book, Fundamentals of Thought, that L Ron Hubbard wrote about solving life problems. Willie recognized that addiction was nothing more than a disability that begins when a person ceases to use abilities essential to constructive survival. He used what he learned from Mr. Hubbard and founded the Narconon program in prison in Narconon spread worldwide from there. As soon as an addict can feel healthier and more competent mentally and physically without drugs than he does on drugs, he ceases to require drugs. - L. Ron Hubbard For the full story of L. Ron Hubbard and William Benitez, visit

TM My son who is now 35 years old was destroying himself with drugs and came very close to dying from prescription painkiller addiction. Luckily, there was a Narconon near us where he could go for effective rehab. The program literally saved his life. Now he is a productive, wonderful, and happy person, and a joy to be around. The prescription opioids he abused for fifteen years nearly ended his life. He hasn t used any drugs since graduating the program. D.C.
