3 Travel Plan Advice and Support We can offer one to one meetings to help identify and tackle your particular travel issues. We can then help you: Create a travel plan that addresses the issues important to you Implement your action plan, including travel plan grants (see over) Monitor your travel plan to measure the success and benefits it s delivering for you 3

4 Advice on Car Parking Issues Many employers face problems of excess demand for car parking spaces, other people parking in your spaces, or double-parking that stops staff accessing cars to get out to meetings. We can come and discuss your car parking problems with you and identify potential solutions, including: Developing a car-sharing scheme Permit systems Charging systems Incentive systems that encourage staff to use other means of access on some days Enforcement systems to ensure your business s spaces are used properly 4

5 Travel Plan Grants Up to 5k match-funding to implement sustainable travel initiatives to support your travel plan. Grants can fund measures such as: Installation of secure and covered cycle parking Shower facilities for staff who are cycling, walking or running Priority car sharing parking spaces Measures to reduce demand for car parking Installation of video or telecon facilities 5

6 York now has over 100 electric charging points, such as this one at Poppleton Bar Park & Ride. Electric Vehicle Trial Cut costs of pool cars or fuel claims by seeing whether an electric vehicle could work for you. Here s how it works: Through government funding, City of York Council will install a charging point at your business We will then loan you an electric car for 3-6 months At the end of the loan, options to purchase car, advice on purchasing additional cars and free installation of further charging points if you decide to expand your electric fleet 6

7 City Car Club Trial City Car Club has a fleet of 22 cars located conveniently around York to hire by the hour. Cut costs of pool cars or fuel claims by using a City Car Club car as a pool car vehicle instead. Here s how it works: City Car Club provides you with a car when you need one which members can rent by the hour (making it a lot cheaper than owning or leasing a pool car) Staff book the car on-line when they need it and pay an hourly charge and mileage fee i-travel York and City Car Club will investigate the opportunity for locating a City Car Club car close to your organisation or business park for a six month trial period, along with free membership for this time If you want to continue to have the car available, and it s been used enough, you ll simply pay your membership fee and we ll keep the car there 7

8 Personal Travel Planning Consultations We can engage your staff by running a Personal Travel Planning consultation. i-travel York Travel Advisers will host an event at your workplace where they give bespoke journey planning advice to staff and provide information and incentives, such as free bus taster tickets, for people to try out a new way of getting to work We can also organise Dr Bike (bike maintenance) sessions, bike try-out or cycle training alongside these sessions 14 businesses and 1,400 staff benefited from this service in

9 Workplace Travel Challenge To further encourage your staff to try out new travel options, staff can take part in the #itravelchallenge2015: Compete against other workplaces to be crowned the most sustainable travel workplace Last year, over 1,500 employees took part in the York Workplace Cycle Challenge, logging 125,000 miles of cycle trips This year, to widen appeal, we re making it a broader challenge and including walking, cycling, public transport and car-sharing. This will be run by Sustrans, the national sustainable transport charity 9

York Workplace Travel Plan Network and Business Join the workplace travel plan network: Learn from other businesses facing similar issues to yourselves Regular breakfast briefings and updates on topics of interest Business who develop a travel plan can receive bronze, silver and gold accreditation Each year, York Press runs its highly prestigious York Business Awards This includes the Sustainable Travel Initiative award. 11 Businesses taking part in i-travel York 81 businesses are members of York Workplace Travel Plan Network. In 2014, over 1,400 staff from 14 organisations hosted Personal Travel Planning Sessions: 11 University of York Marks and Spencer Best Western Hotels York College Nestle York Hospital AVIVA Shepherds University of York St John Joseph Rowntree John Lewis Partnership DEFRA Imphal Barracks York Science Park What York Hospital said: I was delighted to invite the i-travel York team to the hospital; during the event many of our staff reviewed their travel arrangements. The personal attention meant that individuals were able to get advice directly related to their own circumstances. Brian Golding, Director of Estates and Facilities from York Hospital What workers at the hospital said: It was good to talk to someone; they helped with motivating me to cycle to work. It is really good that it was at hospital to reach out to more people, particularly those who need more exercise. It made me a bit more conscious of sustainable transport. It reminds people how much fun cycling is. The scheme is good for reducing reliance on cars.

12 About i-travel York i-travel York is an initiative to reduce congestion and improve health by encouraging sustainable travel choices for workers and residents of York. The initiative is run by City of York Council with funding secured from central Government as the result of a successful bid to the Department for Transport s Local Sustainable Transport Fund.
