2 Exploring the benefits of cloud computing The IBM Career Education program collaborated with MIET to establish the IBM Software Lab for Cloud Computing at MIET, a private lab for advanced education. With the support of IBM specialists, MIET faculty members experienced the ease of use of application development, testing and deployment through the cloud-based, IBM Bluemix platform. The Bluemix platform provides users with the ability to explore and experiment with a variety of IBM, third party and open source services and tools for the design, testing and implementation of applications for web, mobile, data management, business analytics, big data, Internet of things and IBM Watson solutions. With hands-on experience and knowledge as well as IBM support, the MIET faculty obtained the background needed to integrate cloud-based application development education into the institute s plethora of technology curricula, further advancing the depth and breadth of learning opportunities for its students. Expanding classroom and career opportunities Using the skills and capabilities obtained through its dedicated on premises lab, MIET students and faculty can easily access software and services through the IBM Bluemix platform for its computer science engineering curriculum activities and projects. The institution is also able to provide cloud computing skills to students in other disciplines. Additionally, MIET also has an entrepreneurship cell in the institution that encourages students who have ideas to setup their own businesses. Those students are also able to use the lab and IBM Bluemix to develop and host their applications.
