IPMI Utilities Supermicro s IPMI utilities monitor and configures information related to baseboard management controller (BMC) and some of commonly used utilities are highlighted below. 3 SUM: Supermicro Update Manager SCM: Supermicro Command Manager The Supermicro Update Manager (SUM) remotely updates the BIOS and system settings of SMCI X9/X10 generation based machines through OOB (Out-Of-Band) communication channels, i.e. communication through the BMC/IPMI interface. Users can remotely edit system BIOS settings from a human-readable text file, and use this utility to configure the target machine s system BIOS configuration from such a text file. BIOS image and settings update operation is independent of system OS on the target machine and can be executed before a system OS is installed. The Supermicro Command Manager (SCM) is a parallel execution framework under, which allow system administrator to incorporate commands and execute them in parallel on multiple servers. SCM has two components i.e., server component to be installed on management server and agent installed on target nodes. Through SCM agent and server, administrator can execute commands on target operating system by nodes or by groups. SCM is designed to assist in integration with third party utilities and customization of management infrastructure. Current version of SCM has integrated Supermicro's In-band BIOS and IPMI flash utilities. 4 SPM: Supermicro Power Manager The Supermicro Power Manager (SPM) uses IPMI interfaces and Intel Node Manager 2.0 feature to monitor CPU/Memory/System power usage, and remotely control power consumption. It controls power consumption of systems by policy-based administration. By leveraging Intel's Data Center Manager technology, SPM enables administrator to configure policies by data center, room, row, rack, target machine, or logical group defined by self. Policies can be triggered by condition of power or temperature threshold and also by time of day. 6 SSM: Supermicro Server Manager The Supermicro Server Manager (SSM) monitors system health of hardware and services in real-time and provides alerts to administrator on availability of systems in datacenter. SSM provides monitoring through SSM agents or IPMI. SSM agents will monitor Supermicro servers hardware and services by agent. If the server demonstrates warnings/errors, SSM will notify by mail or SNMP traps. SSM Agent supports SNMP. For system management, SSM can control power on/off for managed nodes remotely, reset chassis intrusion, update SSM agent via SSM server and support remote console redirection. SSM supports CLI mode and commands can be executed through batch files.
