1 2014 Occupation Group Support material for schools to assist parents/carers to complete enrolment forms Occupation grouping is an important component of the Family Occupation and Education Index (FOEI) which determines each school s equity loading for socio-economic background. Encouraging and assisting parents/ carers to provide the correct occupation group code helps each school s FOEI to best reflect the school s student profile. This document provides look up tables to assist parents and carers, and staff assisting them, to select the appropriate occupation group. The first listing is alphabetical. If the job title is a common one, this provides an easy reference to the group. The second listing is more comprehensive, describing the types of jobs which each occupation group represents. This listing will help where a specific job title is not listed in the alphabetical listing. Both listings can be searched for key words, in an electronic format. Please note that any changes to parental occupation or education information need to be adequately documented using proper record keeping processes that may be subject to audit. This document has been adapted by the NSW Department of Education and Communities and we would like to acknowledge the State Government of Victoria Department of Education and Early Childhood Development for their work in developing the School Family Occupation Index: Parental Occupation Coding (Comprehensive Guide) and the A to Z Index Occupation List. Note: Numbers next to Occupation Description are in accordance with Australian Standard Classification of Occupations (ASCO) Second Edition, 1997, from the Australian Bureau of Statistics. PUBLIC

2 Overview of occupation groups The four groups listed here are based on occupation classifications by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
