1 Information Technology Introduction The work ethic and the habits of the people we hire here at Sawyer are outstanding. Steve Rodgers, Director Base and Contract Maintenance American Eagle Sawyer International Airport is a former Strategic Air Command Base of the US Air Force and boasts the longest single-runway in the State of Michigan at 12,300 ft. (see other airport services and technical information below). Sawyer also has over 1,000 acres of developable land and existing beautiful, well-maintained hangars and ancillary buildings, nearby MOAs, FBO with DOD contract and engine test cell. The Airport is located 15 minutes from downtown Marquette, the regional capital of Michigan s Upper Peninsula. Delta and American Airlines have multiple daily flights to Sawyer from Chicago and Detroit. In terms of labor, former military personnel that have stayed locally are a great asset to any maintenance/aviation organization. The Northern Michigan University A&P School works very closely with local aerospace and aviation tenants to provide well-trained employees (internship programs can be designed with your company enabling you to test and choose the best students). A premiere engineering school, Michigan Technological University is located approximately 3 hours to the west and Lake Superior State University is located approximately 3 hours to the east. Bay de Noc Community College is located only 40 minutes to the south. Overall the region has an excellent, dedicated and conscientious workforce. Airport Assets Sawyer International Airport, the former K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base, boast the longest single runway in the state of Michigan at 12, 300 feet. The facility features: FAA Contract Control Tower CAT 1 ILS Precision Approach LOC/VOR/DME/NDB Instrument Approach Nearby MOA's Boreal Aviation Fixed Base Operator with DOD Fuel contract Newly Renovated Hangars Commercial Air Service Provided by American Airlines and Delta Connect Existing engine test cell Mega-Hangar Plans Underway Paint Booth Plans Underway NMU A&P School

17 Information Technology Upper Michigan Green Aviation Coalition Creating an industry cluster around green aviation has given our members the ability to participate on a national and international platform. We are able to participate in associations like AFRA, MAMA, NBAA allowing for networking opportunities with OEMs and industry leaders. As a result, small businesses in the Upper Peninsula are working on projects with Lockheed, Boeing and an anonymous Canadian company. Many more RFPs, joint ventures and NDA s are being discussed. A C o l l a b o r a ti o n T o G r o w R e g i o n a l A i r p o r t s UMGAC was formed to provide a collaborative environment for its member airports to attract business in a non-competitive way. To do this, each airport has developed a specific area for strategic growth. This was done through a three-phase process facilitated by Explorer Solutions, an aviation and economic development consultant. Sawyer International Airport is in Phase III and is focused on aircraft dismantling and recycling; Delta County Airport & Renaissance Zone is in Phase II and is focused on green integrators and interiors; and Houghton County Memorial Airport has just completed Phase I and is focused on green military. Additionally, Twin County Airport has opted to join UMGAC and will be starting Phase I to identify its appropriate strategic niche in November M i s s i o n S t a t e m e n t The mission is to join private and public sector partners across the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and bordering regions, with experts from throughout the world, to develop new business opportunities; create jobs; develop new employee categories; promote investment; develop and commercialize advanced technologies; promote collaboration among cluster partners; and expand existing third-party business and financing services within the field of green aviation. Vikki Kulju, Director Upper Michigan Green Aviation Coalition William Carberry, Boeing Environmental addresses audience in Marquette, Michigan
18 Information Technology Lake Superior Community Partnership The community support from the county, city and local and federal political leaders has met our needs. LSCP was spectacular, especially with Governor Granholm Dale Morris, Managing Director American Airlines The Lake Superior Community Partnership is the Marquette County region's leading resource for economic development, providing a wide variety of affordable and effective development services. The LSCP helps our partners make the connections that matter - between businesses, organizations, leaders and legislators, and provides a powerful legislative voice for programs and policies that strengthen our regional economy.
