1 University of Rochester Graduate Degree Program Assessment Plan A. Program title: Technical Entrepreneurship and Management (TEAM) B. Program degree: Master of Science C. Program objectives and program learning outcomes: Program objective 1. students to be equipped with detailed technical knowledge as well as business principles. Core knowledge: Students demonstrate comprehensive, in depth knowledge of the theories, methods, and scholarship in the field. Written Communication: Students convey ideas or arguments in clear, concise, well organized assignments and papers. Oral Communication: Students convey ideas in cogent, persuasive, and organized presentations. Program objective 2. students to be successful professionals and hold positions of leadership in their field. Teamwork: Students demonstrate ability to work with others on projects, including sharing work involved in development of initial ideas and project plan, discussion of progress, and completion of work. Leadership: Students demonstrate leadership through positions held in scholarly and other professional activities. Professional Development: Students broaden their professional foundations through activities such as teaching, internships, fellowships, and grant applications. 1

Innovation/Entrepreneurship: Students demonstrate abilities in innovation and entrepreneurship through development of new inventions, patents, publications, productions, performances, commercialization assessment, and business plan creation. Critical Thinking: Students assess an issue/problem and are able to consider it critically, state it clearly, and describe it comprehensively delivering all relevant information necessary for full understanding. Effective Researchers: Students identify questions/problems that are pertinent to a field of study and provide a focus for making significant contribution to the field. D. Program assessment methods- direct methods 1. Final grade in core theory and method course TEM 401 will be gathered into a report every year. 2. Final grade in core theory and method course TEM 402 will be gathered into a report every year. 3. Final grade in core theory and method course TEM 411 will be gathered into a report every year. 4. Final grade in core theory and method course TEM 441 will be gathered into a report every year. 5. Final grade on final business plan in core theory and method course TEM 411 will be gathered into a report every year. 6. Student s business plan oral presentation will be reviewed by faculty using a score rubric every year. 7. Data gathered on leadership positions, internships, awards, and other held by students enrolled will be reported during exit interviews and graduate surveys each year. 8. Number of students who start an entrepreneurial venture will be collected and reported each year. E. Program assessment methods- indirect methods 1. Exit interviews will be conducted with each graduating student annually. The interview will include questions on systems, processes, course work, learning experience, satisfaction, and career placement. 2. A graduating student survey will be distributed electronically annually. The survey will include questions on student learning, course evaluation, and program evaluation. 3. Career data, such as placement 0, 3, and 6 months after graduation and position title will be collected annually from alumni. 2
3 F. Program assessment data review 1. Final grades will be gathered in theory and method courses TEM 401, TEM 402, TEM 411, and TEM 441 every year by program staff and reported to the Vice Provost for Entrepreneurship for review. 2. Data gathered on number of students who start an entrepreneurial venture, who hold leadership positions, who completed an internship, who received awards, and other will be reported each year by program staff and reviewed by the Vice Provost for Entrepreneurship and the deans of both the Hajim and Simon School. 3. Data gathered from both the one on one exit interviews and online graduate survey will be collected by program staff and reported to the Vice Provost for Entrepreneurship for review. G. Alignment of program learning outcomes and program assessment methods Instructions: Please use information from sections C F above to complete the following table. The table should show the alignment of program learning outcomes and assessment methods. For each method, note the standard for adequate student performance set by the program. See Appendix 1.
