2 About the Conference We will begin with a basic overview of how a case proceeds through the criminal justice system and when and how advocates can intervene to assist victims charged with criminal offenses. Experienced criminal defense attorneys will explain the use of classic criminal defenses and creative strategies on behalf of battered women. We will then examine the situations in which domestic violence victims find themselves on the defensive in civil proceedings. We will highlight the difficult choices women face in family offense, custody and visitation cases, explain collateral consequences of criminal proceedings, and explore how best to introduce expert testimony and knowledgeably cross-examine forensic evaluators. CONFERENCE TIME AND FEES: March 5 6, 2007, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day in the Fordham Law School McNally Amphitheatre. The registration fee is $90 for one day of the conference and $145 for both days. CLE CREDIT IS AVAILABLE: This two-day conference is appropriate for newly admitted and experienced attorneys and is approved for a maximum of 12 transitional credit hours according to the following allocation: Day 1 March 5: 2 skills, 1 ethics, and 3 professional practice Day 2 March 6: 3 skills, 1 ethics, and 2 professional practice Both Days March 5 6: 5 skills, 2 ethics, and 5 professional practice This CLE credit allocation is approved in accordance with the requirements of the New York State Continuing Legal Education Board.
