1 Applying to UIC : International Students Track Admission Tracks There are two different admission tracks for applying to Underwood International College (hereinafter UIC ) depending on the nationalities of both the applicant and his/her parents. This application guideline is for International Students who wish to study at UIC. Students must either hold or be expected to hold a high school diploma or a certificate of high school equivalency (e.g. GED) before matriculating at UIC. 2. Additionally, the student must be a non-korean with non-korean parents. If a student or any one of the student s parent has dual citizenship with Korea, the student is NOT eligible for the International Students Track. Exceptionally, a Taiwanese applicant with one parent of Taiwanese citizenship is classified as an international student for application purposes. 3. The standard for judging the nationality of the student and the student s parents will be based on passports. Foreigners with Korean ethnicity must submit legal documentation that verifies their renunciation of Korean nationality.

The Admissions Committee may consider application postmarked earlier than the online application deadline as an exception. 2. Information on visa, tuition payment and course enrollment will be sent to individual s written on the applications. Students entering in the spring semester (March) will receive an in late January, and students entering in the fall semester (September) in late May. 2. Admissions Process The UIC admissions for international students are processed in two stages: The First Stage: Document Review (200 points) The Second Stage: Interview (100 points) Application will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee and will be graded on a 200 point scale. Applicants who pass the first stage will proceed to the second stage for an interview. Applicants who passed the first stage will be interviewed by the Admissions Committee and will be graded on a 100 point scale. 1. Information regarding applications (e.g. arrival of application, application number, and list of missing documents) will be informed through the individual s written on the applications. 2. Information regarding admissions (e.g. document review and interview results, date of the interview, admissions notification) and scholarships will be informed via individual s written on the applications. 3. Applicants who passed the first stage will receive two phone calls First for the applicant verification and second for the interview.

3 3. Evaluation Method International students will be evaluated by the Admissions Committee pursuant to admissions procedures and regulations of Yonsei University. Members of the Admissions Committee, evaluation scores, and contents will not be disclosed. Evaluation of an applicant will be done continuously and comprehensively during the admission process by reviewing the application package and interviewing the applicant. The Admissions Committee offers admissions and admission scholarships to applicants based on the points given during the admission process. 4. Selection of Field Fields within UIC Major(s) Campus Underwood Comparative Literature and Culture Economics International Studies Political Science and International Relations Life Science and Biotechnology Freshmen courses are offered at International Campus in Songdo Major courses are offered at Sinchon Campus Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (HASS) Integrated Science and Engineering (ISE) Asian Studies Information and Interaction Design Creative Technology Management Culture and Design Management Justice and Civil Leadership Quantitative Risk Management Science, Technology, and Policy Sustainable Development and Cooperation Bio-Convergence Energy and Environmental Science and Engineering Nano Science and Engineering Freshmen courses are offered at International Campus in Songdo Major courses are continued at International Campus in Songdo 1. Applicants must select one field upon application. 2. Selection of field must be done carefully since majors can be changed only within a field. 3. Selection of major is done at the end of the freshmen year.

4 5. Application Policies 1. Applicants must provide a full name that is verifiable through legal documents, such as passport, social security card, and birth certificate. 2. All documents must be in English. Documents in other languages including Korean should be accompanied by a notarized English translation. 3. Unless stated otherwise, all documents must be ORIGINAL. If an original document cannot be submitted, a photocopy of it should be submitted with a seal affixed by the issuing institution or with Notarization. 4. Documents submitted for admission will NOT be returned. 5. Cancellation or changes after submission of application will NOT be accepted. 6. Admission may be cancelled in case a student: (1) does not enroll for the courses within two weeks from the first day of school; or (2) does not pay total amount of tuition fee within six weeks from the first day of school. 6. Application Methods We want to make it easy for you to apply. So at Underwood International College, we offer two different online application options. Direct Application to UIC Applicants must submit both an online application and an offline application. Step 1. Online Application: Submit your application Applicants must apply online through UIC website. All the information that you register on the website will be kept in confidentiality and used for admissions only. Registered information must be printed out and then sent to the UIC Office with other Application Materials. 5 Application Fee: KRW 150,000 (about USD 150) Applicants must enclose a receipt in the application package after payment according to the information provided below. In case the payment cannot be made under the applicant s name, please notify the UIC Office of the sender s name. Direct payment at the UIC Office is NOT accepted. The application fee is NON-refundable. 6 7. Application Materials Required Documents 1. Printed Application Form as you registered through Online Application 2. [Apostille/Consulate Authentication] Official transcripts* from all high schools attended 3. [Apostille/Consulate Authentication] Certificate of graduation* or certificate of expected graduation* (in the latter case, certificate of graduation must be submitted before matriculation) 4. Two recommendation letters from high school teachers (using the form provided) 5. One copy of the applicant s and his/her parents passports or ID cards 6. One notarized copy of the applicant s birth certificate or notarized legal documentation that verifies the relationship between the applicant and his/her parents (Applicants with Chinese nationality must submit notarized copies of 亲 属 关 系 证 明 and 居 民 户 口 簿.) 7. (Refer to Apostille/Consulate Authentication Requirement.) Supplementary Documents (recommended for submission) 1. Documents certifying the scores of high school graduation exam or higher education entrance exam listed under the Test Information (e.g. SAT, ACT, GCE-A LEVEL, IB, AP, Gao Kao, Matura, etc.). 2. When applicants report the records of IELTS, TOEFL, SAT, AP etc. directly to Yonsei University, they must inform [[email protected]] of applicants English name and the date of the test so that the scores can be evaluated. When the students do not inform [[email protected]] of the reporting and, as a result, the scores are not evaluated, the responsibility lies entirely on the applicants. Honors, awards, qualifications attained during high school and documents that certify extracurricular activities from high school should be filed with the List of Supplementary Documents. Provide copies with a seal affixed from the issuing institution.

7 Apostille/ Consulate Authentication Requirement Legalization of high school transcript(s) and certificate of high school graduation are possible by: (1) obtaining Apostille stamps on the documents in case the student has attended or graduated from school(s) in a country that is a member of the Hague Convention (Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents); or (2) obtaining certifications of the documents from the Korean embassy or consular office in the country where student s school is located; or (3) China Qualifications Verification of China Academic Degrees and Graduate Education Development Center when the student has attended or graduated from school(s) in People s Republic of China. Issuing Organization: Apostille is issued by the government/public institution of the country in which the school is located. Korean Consulate Confirmation and Foreign Education Validation Confirmation are issued by the consuls. 8 Process of obtaining Apostille (1) Public documents (from public schools) (2) Private documents (from private schools etc.) * The definition of private documents can differ from each country according to its own Notary Act and Attorney-at-Law Act. In general, Apostille will be issued when documents notarized in the country are submitted. 8. Points of Caution Admission Policy 1. When students do not comply with University s prescribed process and rules, or required documents are not completely submitted, the students will be disqualified. 2. Admission may be cancelled in case a student: (1) does not enroll for the courses within two weeks from the first day of school; or (2) does not pay total amount of tuition fee within six weeks from the first day of school. 3. When Yonsei University decides that applications do not meet the qualifications, no applicant may be admitted. 4. Details on admission decisions will not be released. Dishonesty Policy If a student is found to have applied through illegal means, such as submission of false or forged documents or altered representation of eligibility, admission will be denied. Students who forge or falsify documents, employ substitute(s) during examinations, or do not meet the specified qualifications will not be admitted. If any of the above mentioned facts are discovered after admission is granted, the admission decision will be revoked even after the letter of acceptance has been sent out or class registration has been completed.
