1 General Information about the Graduate School of Hiroshima University [Academic Vision] The Graduate School of in Hiroshima University has set forth the objective of establishing a new system for a broad range of educational sciences suitable for the 21st century, based on the key concept of learning. Theory and practice will be integrated in this new system, while the study of educational science and the training system for teachers in the 20th century will be re-evaluated. [Admission Policy] Learning Science: Students are expected to have the motivation and passion to carry out academic and scientific research on a learning activity which defines humanity, from the viewpoint of lifelong development. Special Needs : Applicants are expected to show extensive knowledge and deep understanding of special needs education, respect the human dignity of children and students with disabilities, have a broad and rich sense of humanity, and have high motivation to be diligent and conduct research projects related to the area of special needs education. Science, Technology and Society : This program seeks students who have a strong inquiring mind on educational significance and truth in the fields of natural sciences, mathematics, technology and information, or humanities and social sciences, and are eager to pursue graduate research in pedagogy, teaching and learning methodology, and teachers content knowledge and teaching ability. Language and Culture : This program expects its applicants not only to be interested in language and culture in general but also to be committed to the development and improvement of educational and research activities concerning language and culture. Life-long Activities : We are seeking graduate students who are interested in carrying out advanced research and improving their expertise in teaching-learning methods which enrich human lifelong activities. al Studies: We are seeking students who can acquire specialist knowledge and research skills in pedagogy and extend their research activities to the international level. This course takes into account the linkage of lifelong learning and school education based on studies of the values, structure, and mechanisms of learning. Moreover, it advances research and education on curriculum development and other related aspects, including upcoming educational issues such as environmental education, information education, international education, foreign language activities, and so on, in elementary education. 3 Social Studies Language and Culture Japanese Language and Culture The goals of the Social Studies are the following: (1) To explore the research fields of geography, history, citizenship and social studies education through scientific approaches, especially as regards school-based researches focusing on the developmental stages of learners; (2) To conduct research and education on educational significance, subjectcontents and methods in social studies education, based on the research mentioned above, from a broad perspective, including the linkage between school education and a lifelong learning society, as well as lifelong development.
