Hospital names, locations, specialties, IT systems, senior medical staff, maps, parking and public transport information. Best Practice Clinical Guidelines, hospital equipment usage and common errors to watch out for. Out of pocket costs for patients for different medical services and gener al advice on how to budget. The app will allow the three main users, patients, clinicians and developers to interact and keep each other updated. The app is free for these users. They will be sent regular surveys to keep the database up to date and accurate. Data gathered will be collated into reports on cost and quality of hospitals across Australia. This will be sold to governments, health insurance companies etc for a fee. Hospitals will be able to contract Wikihospitals to review their practices and give recommendations on how to increase their quality and decrease costs.]

UX USER EXPERIENCE Design elements to attract, engage and influence [There are three separate apps, downloadable for patient s, clinicians and developers. While some of the information available in all three apps is similar, some is very different. Separating the three groups of users while allowing them to share ideas is the best way to manage the diversity of information and needs. The apps all contain close integration with google services. These include maps, utube, hangouts, google +, gmail and search engine. This is to make the app interactive, allow quick communication to services listed and to maximise use of smart phone technology. Different databases of information is access by pressing different buttons on the home screen e.g. which hospital, best practice or out of pocket costs. These are types of information commonly searched for by patients. Users can save useful parts of the database e.g. best hospital to their account, so it can be retrieved at any time.] 2. EFFECTIVENESS How does your app help solve the identified problem for the patient/consumer [One third of hospital bed in Australia are private, Australia has the third highest out of pocket medical costs in the world, there is currently a Senate enquiry into the issue. Very few up front quotes are given out by private doctors, pathology clinics or private hospitals. Australia has been rated by the World Health Organisation has having one of the worst records of hospital safety, Australian studies show that patients only get Best Practice in 57% of medical consultations and 3% of doctors trigger 49% of medical complaints. Patients are not able to view any health professionals or hospitals past history of complaints or legal cases. Patients cannot make public negative comments about individual doctors due to legal constraints. Wikihospitals works around these issues. It only gives out information on well regarded hospitals, with high quality facilities. And what value does it bring to the user? [] This app brings together the three major players in the modern health system, patients, clinicians and developers. Patients can see how clinicians rate hospitals and learn the importance of a multi team approach. Clinicians can learn how much patients are actually paying in out of pocket costs for their health care. And developers can learn how basic the problems are for both patients and clinicians. Together the three groups could encourage each other to produce new and better Health IT systems. Beacons, satellite navigation tracking and geo alerts could pick up and follow patients as they travel through the complex maze of hospitals, clinics and nursing homes. Alerts could be auto generated every year to remind patients to review their medical records and check their accuracy. Clinician awareness of the huge difference in costs between different health services, could guide their decision on where to refer patients for treatments and where to avoid. 8 5. 6. INNOVATION Explain how your concept is original, fills a gap or solves a problem uniquely USABILITY What is the ease of use of your app and how does it accommodate your target audience? APP REVIEW [Australia has no national, clearly defined and legally binding Best Practice Clinical Guidelines. Each public hospital creates it s own policy manual setting out patient care. These can only be access under FOI. Many private hospitals have minimal documentation on patient care guidelines, a casual workforce and no set nurse to patient ratios. There is no legal limit on what fees private specialists can charge. Many private hospitals are run and owned by the same doctors who treat patients there. Information on both private hospital charges and private health fund rebates is hidden from public view. The result is a very fragmented health system, with enormous variations in cost and quality. Australia is moving rapidly to a USA style private health system. Wikihospitals provides a practical and workable solution to this growing problem. There is nothing like this app in the Australian, or the USA market.] [At present time, patient s experience in hospitals is virtually ignored. There is no central data collection on out of pocket costs, hospital errors and patients general experiences of hospitals. No hospital funding is linked to the quality or cost effectiveness of their care. There is no feedback collected from discharged patients. This is despite the fact patients are one of the best possible sources of health data. Numerous consumer health sites are making requests for a website that lists health services in the same way that all other goods and services are rated and discussed on line. Wikihospitals stays away from legal problems by focusing the attention on hospitals rather than individual doctors, and removing from public public view information on substandard and/or overpriced hospitals. Wikihospitals will be promoted via social networks, patient support groups.
