2 To Whom It May Concern: Thank you for your work supporting sexual assault survivors. In an effort to connect survivors with the many resources available to them, I am asking for your help in spreading the word about DoD Safe Helpline (Safe Helpline). Safe Helpline is a groundbreaking crisis support service for members of the DoD Community affected by sexual assault. Since its launch in April 2011, Safe Helpline has helped thousands of sexual assault survivors in the DoD community take the first steps towards recovery. Users can anonymously access free support, 24/7, worldwide. In addition, Safe Helpline s trained staff can also connect survivors with resources on their base or installation, such as SARCs, VAs, JAGs, Chaplains, and military police. To help you spread the word about DoD Safe Helpline I have attached the Safe Helpline Toolkit. The Toolkit is designed to complement the ways in which you are already speaking with Service Members about this issue and the resources available on your base or installation. The tool-kit includes the following elements: Tips on how to promote Safe Helpline About Safe Helpline text (short and long versions) Sample text for social media and newsletter articles Promotional materials (Digital and Print) I am pleased to be working with you and value your efforts to ensure that survivors of sexual assault receive the support they deserve. 3 Tips on How to Promote Safe Helpline There are a number of simple ways to spread the word about DoD Safe Helpline on your base or installation. Online Website o Add a Safe Helpline web banner to direct visitors to safehelpline.org. * o Embed a link to the new Safe Helpline web video, which illustrates the service s features and resources*. Social Media o Share DoD Safe Helpline contact information via Facebook and Twitter from your base or installation s social media accounts. o Share, repost and retweet RAINN s Safe Helpline related posts and on your social media sites. o Add the Safe Helpline link and descriptor text into your signature. In-person Incorporate Safe Helpline promotional materials during one-on-one outreach and at in-person events*: o Make Safe Helpline brochures, postcards, and posters easily accessible in your office and around your base or installation. o Distribute Safe Helpline brochures and postcards to individuals when they come to you for help. o Distribute Safe Helpline brochures, posters and postcards at base or installation-wide events. o Conduct Safe Helpline mobile app demonstrations for Service members. *Note: Please see page 7 for correlating text, links, graphics, etc.

4 About DoD Safe Helpline Connect sexual assault survivors in the military with the help they deserve through DoD Safe Helpline by incorporating one of these sample text options into your website. Short version: DoD Safe Helpline: Sexual Assault Support for the DoD Community Department of Defense (DoD) Safe Helpline is a groundbreaking crisis support service for members of the DoD community affected by sexual assault. Safe Helpline provides live, one-on-one support, and information to the worldwide DoD community. The service is confidential, anonymous, secure, and available worldwide, 24/7 by click, call, or text providing victims with the help they need, anytime, anywhere. DoD Safe Helpline operated by RAINN on behalf of the Department of Defense. Long version: DoD Safe Helpline: Sexual Assault Support for the DoD Community DoD Safe Helpline is a crisis support service for sexual assault survivors in the military. Safe Helpline is anonymous, secure, available 24/7, and provides survivors with the help they need using five easy-to-access services: ONLINE HELPLINE Safe Helpline provides live, confidential, one-on-one help through a secure instant-messaging format at SafeHelpline.org. The website also contains vital information about recovering from and reporting a sexual assault. TELEPHONE HELPLINE Safe Helpline also provides live, confidential help over the phone just call If you wish, helpline staff can transfer you to your Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC), Military OneSource, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, or a civilian sexual assault service provider. The phone number is the same in the U.S. and worldwide via the Defense Switched Network (DSN). INFO BY TEXT To reach your Sexual Assault Response Coordinator, text your zip code or installation/base name to (inside the U.S.) or (outside the U.S.), and DoD Safe Helpline will quickly text you back with contact information for your nearest civilian or DoD sexual assault service provider. *Message and data rates may apply. PEER-TO-PEER SUPPORT Want to talk to people who have been through a similar experience? Safe HelpRoom hosts live, secure peerto-peer discussions through a moderated online chat format. Visit SafeHelpRoom.org to find out the time of the next discussion and to vote on what topics will be discussed. APP Download the Safe Helpline app (for ios or Andriod) and create a personalized self-care plan. You can use the self-care exercises and information whenever you d like. Your personalized plan will be stored only on your mobile device, so it will remain completely confidential. Once you download the app, you don t need

5 an internet connection to use it. If you are stationed abroad, connect to the telephone helpline from your mobile device at no charge. If you are separating from military service or recently retired, Safe Helpline can assist with the transition process by connecting survivors with DoD, Veterans Affairs and civilian resources for mental healthcare, housing and employment.
