Dowd, Executive County Superintendent The Atlantic County Office of Education serves as the County representative for the New Jersey State Department of Education. The Office has a mission, which includes evaluation, regulation, compliance, coordination, assistance and service. Enrollment in the County Public School Systems (PK-12) for the 2011/2012 school year exceeds 44,000 students. Technical assistance support and monitoring is provided to the twenty six Public School Districts and four Charter Schools of the County in the areas of: program development and approval; assessment and testing; budget and finance; facilities; curriculum and instruction; staff development; state monitoring; staff certification; special education; legislation; and mandated regulations and guidelines. The Office works with the school districts to provide high quality educational programs that are equitable and efficient; that prepare students for employment and citizenship; and, that promote student's intellectual, ethical, cultural, emotional and physical growth. The Executive County Superintendent of Schools works closely with the County Executive, County Board of Chosen Freeholders and various educational, governmental, and social services agencies with respect to educational issues and initiatives. Collaborative and shared services initiatives receive significant emphasis. 3
