8 Charles Stark Draper Laboratory Mission: Draper is one of the world s s leading independent applied research, engineering and development laboratories. Staff: Draper, a nonprofit spin-off of MIT, expects to employ at least 100 people at a laboratory at the University of South Florida in Tampa and another 65 in St. Petersburg. Facilities: Draper will be establishing a BioMEMS R&D Center at the University of South Florida in Tampa and a Multi Chip Module (MCM) M) Center in St. Petersburg. Research: Draper will be a research partner with the University of South Florida, SRI-St. St. Petersburg and others to form the nucleus of a micro- technology cluster.

13 Fish and Wildlife Research Institute Mission: To obtain data and information about fish and wildlife ecosystems Staff: Approximately 300 persons Facilities: Three buildings in Bayboro area and one in South St. Petersburg Responsibilities: Monitoring marine & freshwater resources Habitat restoration Human-related & natural disaster support

14 National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Mission: To predict & research weather and climate-related events, and provide stewardship of marine resources Staff: 135 employees Facilities: NOAA s Southeast Regional Offices - 54,000 sq.ft. Responsibilities: Preserving living marine resources and their habitat through scientific research, management and enforcement

16 U.S. Coast Guard Mission: To protect maritime interests and provide mariner assistance Staff: 33 station personnel with 299 assigned to cutters and cruisers Facilities: Several facilities in the Bayboro Harbor and numerous vessels Responsibilities: Aids to Navigation Monitor marine activity for Tampa Bay Port Security
