Response: We turned the speakers down Neighbor (name was inaudible) called to say some construction trucks and a white office supply truck used Independence Avenue to access Sierra Canyon. Response: Nina Weston ed the sales rep for Complete Office Supplies and asked her to remind drivers to use Variel and not Independence Avenue when making deliveries to the Lower Campus. Company said they would remind their drivers. Nina also ed Brad Boyajian, Chief of Operations, and Jay Miller, Director of Operations, to ask construction companies to use Variel and not Independence Maureen Levitt called to report that cars are parked on Independence, and there is no additional security to handle Fair event Jeannie Plumb called to say that there was no additional uniformed security staff helping with Fair parking. Response: David Sobel, Director of Finance, said that additional parking staff was provided, and they wore red polo shirts Jeannie Plumb called to report approximately 50 cars parked on Rinaldi/side streets to participate in a competition on the football field Saturday, May 2 nd from about 8:00 a.m.- noon. She says the field is only permitted to be used for practice and instruction. This looked like a competition. Response: The football team used the field the morning of Saturday, May 2 nd for practice Neighbor (name was inaudible) called to ask construction companies to use Variel instead of Independence Avenue to access the Lower Campus. Response: The Help Desk asked Boyajian, Miller, Kramer and security to remind construction crews not to use Independence Avenue Jeannie Plumb called to say a white SC van drove down Independence Avenue at 12:06 p.m. after making several trips from the Lower Campus. She says the van drove out from the Lower Campus and the security guard did not stop the van. Plumb says SC white vans frequently drive back and forth on Independence Avenue. Response: Our employees know that using Independence Avenue is part of the terms for employment. An employee who uses Independence Avenue is written up which leads to termination.
Jeannie Plumb called at 1:58 p.m. and left a voice message on the Help Desk line. She says she called 6 times in an hour and a half and no one answered the phone. She says the switchboard puts her into voic . She said no one ever answers her calls. She wants Lesa Slaughter s phone number. Response: The Help Desk was absent from the office to help setup the gym for an event Friday morning and tried to call Jeannie back 4 times but the line had been busy. The Help Desk reached her and someone else had already given her Lesa Slaughter s phone number. Earlier today, Robin Kerrigan offered Jeannie her cell phone number but she refused to take it. It was offered a second time but she didn t want it. She also has the cell phone numbers of David Sobel and Erick Nistal Jeannie Plumb called at 12:44 p.m. on (Saturday) to say that there were over 100 participants using the athletic field between 9:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. for an athletic event. She said there were traffic problems coming and going such as an intersection was blocked, drivers ignored residents, drivers made turns in driveways and U-turns in the street. Ms. Plumb said there was no traffic control, and it was against our CUP to have in her estimation over 100 participants using the fields. Response: On June 7 th, the school hosted lacrosse practice on an introductory basis for all new students the school. The introduction was held between 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. While there were over 100 participants throughout the day, there were never more than 50 in attendance at any time. Once it was realized that a few of the drivers who had never been to the fields were using Independence, we immediately stationed a guard at 10:30 a.m. to instruct them about the participants not to use Independence Maureen Levitt called to say there were a lot of cars at the School and cars parked on the street. It was a Sunday, and there is not supposed to be an event at the school on a Sunday. Response: Per the CPC CU, section 6 page 3, under Special Events letter j, Summer Camp Open Houses. A maximum of four (4) summer camp open houses shall be permitted, on either Saturdays or Sundays, with hours from noon to 5:00 p.m. This is exactly what Maureen had witnessed. Our camp open house Maureen Leavitt ed Mr. Skrumbis to report that the trail repairs had not been made as of Sunday afternoon, June 15, She asked if he would get Joe to expedite the repairs. In addition to the trail, Mrs. Leavitt complained that there were people using the using the Sierra Canyon Athletic field located at N. De Soto Avenue, Chatsworth on Sunday around noon. She stated that this is in violation of CPC CU-PA1 (CEQA# ENV MND). Section 2. Operation; 2.b: 5) states Sunday use of the subject site shall be prohibited. Exception: Regular maintenance of the subject site shall be permitted between the hours of 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Response: Mr. Skrumbis replied to Maureen Leavitt s concerns and explained that Joe came to inspect the horse trail and did some preliminary work on Thursday. He ordered some supplies which were to be delivered on Monday and that he would finish the job as soon as possible. Mr. Skrumbis will let Joe know that Maureen is dissatisfied with his timelessness and work. After investigating Mrs. Leavitt s claim that there were people on the field on Sunday afternoon, we have come to find out that an employee of Sierra Canyon employees went to the Baseball Field on Sunday to check that the newly
planted sod is being irrigated properly, as he generally does over the weekends. He took his family with him and stayed for a longer time than usual. We have asked him not to extend his visits going forward Maureen Levitt called. Athletes used the athletic field on and the CUP does not allow field use on a Sunday. Response: One of our employees went to the Baseball Field on Sunday to check that the newly planted sod is being irrigated properly, as he generally does over the weekends. He took his family with him and stayed for a longer time than usual. We have asked him not to extend his visits going forward Jeannie Plumb called. Boys in baseball uniforms stood outside the field gate until someone came and unlocked the gate for them. It is against the CUP to use the field on a Sunday. Someone also told her she was trespassing. She was unable to reach David Sobel on his cell phone. Response: One of our employees went to the Baseball Field on Sunday to check that the newly planted sod is being irrigated properly, as he generally does over the weekends. He took his family with him Jeannie Plumb called to say older student athletes were using the athletic field approximately 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. today. She doesn t think older students are permitted to use the athletic field in the summer. Per the CPC CU, Section 2. Operation a) Exclusive Use. The subject site shall be for the exclusive use of the Sierra Canyon Secondary and Elementary Schools for: 5) Summer and winter school/camp. The School is conducting a summer football day camp. Nothing in the Conditional Use Permit prohibits or restricts the age group of these campers Jeannie Plumb called to say parents from the summer camp night over were using Independence Avenue to access the school rather than using Variel Avenue. Response: A homeowner on Independence Avenue was having an Estate Sale on Saturday, July 12 th. The Sierra Canyon Security staff noted that the cars using Independence were traveling to and from this sale Jeannie Plumb called to say a Range Rover with a trailer was using Independence Avenue to access the Sierra Canyon construction site rather than using Variel Avenue. Response: A new Vendor mistakenly used Independence Avenue rather than Variel Avenue to access the construction site. Our Construction Foreman asked that the Vendor use Variel to access the site the future Jeannie Plumb called to complain that camp families were using Independence Ave. this week. Response: This week Variel between Chatsworth and Rinaldi Street was closed for two days for repaving. Detour signs, placed by the street services crew, sent people to either
Independence Ave. or Canoga Ave. For those few families who came down Independence, we reminded them of our obligation to not use this street. Upon exiting they complied Calls from Maureen Levitt and Jeannie Plumb regarding the noise level coming from the Lower Campus Sierra Canyon Day Camp. The Help Desk called Lower School reception after the first call from Levitt and then after the second call from Plumb. Plumb spoke with Adam Horwitz at the Camp site and the volume was turned down The Menendez Family called to say 3 construction trucks coming from Sierra Canyon carrying black stuff used Independence Avenue this morning. Response: The trucks are with the City of Los Angeles and are removing asphalt and replacing it on Rinaldi, which is in front of the Lower School Campus. Work is scheduled to last one week Neighbor, Paul Roady, called saying the football field lights have been on all night since Friday night. The lights shine into his bedroom making sleep more difficult. Response: The manufacturer has stipulated the lights have to burn for 100 consecutive hours. The lights will be turned off 100 hours from when they were first turned on sometime Tuesday night. The Help Desk called Mr. Roady back and passed this information onto him Maureen Levitt called to ask if 2 sets of lights from the football field could be re-directed and tweaked a little. She lives in the second house in on Independence and says some lights shine into her backyard. The lights are on the poles in the field facing Brown s Canyon. Response: The lights on the football field have been professionally engineered to ensure that the football field has adequate lighting for the safety of players and spectators while at the football field Neighbor, Maureen Levitt, called to say the field parking lot lights go on at 6:00 p.m. each evening. She called to ask that the lights be turned on only during games and practices. She says the lights shine into her backyard. Response: The lights in the parking lot are part of the electrical plan of the facility and have been approved by city planners and engineers. School administrators called Ms. Levitt to talk to her about the lights Neighbor Maureen Levitt called to say a truck carrying chain link fence drove up Independence Avenue this morning and went into the Athletic Field. Ms. Levitt says more trucks have recently been using Independence Avenue. Response: We have and will continue to remind our contractors not to use Independence Avenue.
Neighbor, Jeannie Plumb, called regarding a delivery truck with Papermate.com written on the side used Independence Avenue this morning. She asked that a reminder be sent to our companies. Response: The Help Desk contacted our supply company, Complete Office who confirmed that their trucks all say Complete Office on the side and they do not use Independence Avenue for deliveries. An was also sent to the Lower Campus Administrative Assistants to remind them whenever possible, to ask drivers to use Variel Avenue when making deliveries Neighbor Maureen Levitt called Friday evening and left a voice message on the Help Desk line to say that she could hear everything going on the Lower Campus because of the amplified noise. She asked us not to use amplification, and she will let the city know Neighbor Jeannie Plumb called to say that she could hear everything organizers said to students on Friday night and asks that we not use amplification. It is against our CUP to have amplified noise. Response: Several times during the Special Event, the School s security guards and CUP coordinator left the facility to ensure that the public address system s sound did not escape the school s confines. Only low pressure speakers were used, as per the Conditional Use Permit. The event also concluded by 9:00 p.m. as per the CUP. In addition, per the consent decree, a school representative shall, for a time period commencing two hours before and ending two hours after the event, personally respond to all calls reporting parking or traffic or CUP issues within ten minutes of receipt. No calls, s, or text messages were sent to the CUP Compliance Officer regarding any potential noise violations Neighbor Gary Levitt called to ask that the amplified nose on the Lower Campus be lowered. Response: The Help Desk called the Lower Campus receptionist and asked her to pass on the information to those working in carpool Gary Levitt, a neighbor who owns a house on Independence Avenue, says that a few of the tall football field lights are not quite right. He says a few of them aim right down onto Independence Avenue and when driving up De Soto last night he could see 1 or 2 shining up into the freeway instead of the field. He would like someone to look at the lights and adjust the few that are not shining onto the field. Response: This complaint will be forwarded to the lighting company for them to o an evaluation of the lights.
Jeannie Plumb called to say she saw cars entering and exiting the Athletic Field parking lot from Rinaldi Street and Independence Avenue on Thursday. She said we don t have a certificate of occupancy to use the parking lot. Response: The School is using the parking lot property for construction vehicles, the vehicles of construction workers and city inspectors while the off-site improvements are being completed. We expect this to continue until the project is completed Jeannie Plumb called asking that the name of the person from Sierra Canyon who responses to one of her calls be posted on the website. She says that the response is not always accurate, and she wants to know who she can then respond to. She said that posting her name is a form of bullying and the SC responder s name should also be posted. Response: Per the consent decree, The School shall maintain a log of all complaints or concerns, the dates on which they were received, the persons submitting the complaint or concern, the responses given and any corrective action taken, and the dates of the responses and any corrective actions. The School has a committee that responds to these issues, not an individual. The School is listing those who complain as it is required of in the consent decree Neighbor, Maureen Levitt, called to say there are a lot of cars parked around the school and cars using Independence Avenue. Response: The School had an event to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday. The event was for parents, students and their families. The School s security department witnessed several vehicles using Independence Ave. In discussions with these individuals, it became clear that they were at Sierra Canyon and not Chatsworth Hills Academy which hosted an event today as well Neighbor, Jeannie Plumb, called asking about the posting on our website for a Athletic Field Opening on December 4th. She said the website advertises soccer games, and she assumes this means other schools will be playing against our teams on the field. She said we are not allowed to use the parking lot unless we have a certificate of occupancy from the city. Response: The School is aware of its legal obligations with the city as it relates to what it can and cannot due as it relates to interscholastic competition based on a certificate of occupancy.
