A one semester scholarship for a woman lawyer from Eastern Europe working on domestic violence issues. Scholars have come from Georgia, Poland and Azerbaijan. Mentor for Visiting Scholar present Co-Founder and Lecturer the Women s Human Rights Training Institute to train young women s rights lawyers from Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union, to develop and litigate women s human rights cases in three settings: (1) locally their own countries; (2) before the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, France; and (3) at the international level, primarily by using UN petitioning and reporting mechanisms and to form a strategic litigation network in the region. The program is funded by OSI as well as other foundations in the U.S., Norway and Sweden present Board of Directors, Network of East West Women (NEWW) an international NGO with UN Observer status, is made up of both individuals and women s rights organizations, Eastern Europe with the goal of furthering women s human rights in the region NEWW, Co-Director, Legal Fellowship Program for training young women lawyers from Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union through four-month fellowships in the United States. The goal was to help these women learn women s human rights law, develop organizational skills, and begin to think about legal advocacy strategies. This Program was funded between 1996 and 2000 by the Soros Foundation, the Ford Foundation, and several smaller foundations. 3
4 Project Director of the International Human Rights Student Exchange with Jagiellonian University Law Faculty (Poland) funded by the Sasakawa Peace Foundation in Japan. This innovative exchange project involved ten law students from UB law school and ten from the Jagiellonian law school Organizer and participant UB Interdisciplinary Academic Team to Jagiellonian University. For this month long exchange program, I selected faculty from six UB departments (Architecture, Art History, English, Law, Philosophy and Women s Studies) scholars who were addressing gender issues in their discipline. For the first two weeks, the UB faculty presented papers in their respective departments at Jagiellonian about how the inclusion of gender in their teaching. The second two week period consisted of an interdisciplinary seminar which included a series of presentations by UB professors from different disciplines on a selected topic. For example, in one seminar, professors in law, philosophy and English analyzed reproductive rights through their own disciplinary lens. I led weekly group discussions for violent offenders for three years.
