1 FNSA SCHOLARSHIPS The source of all FNSA Scholarships will be the Florida Nursing Association Foundation, and will be coordinated by the FNSA Treasurer. The selection process will be handled by the Scholarship Selection Committee, appointed by the FNSA Treasurer and will consist of one consultant from each Region if possible. The chair of the selection committee will be a member of the Florida Nurses Foundation if possible. The Executive Board will establish the total amount available for scholarships. 1. For outstanding individual contributions to the FNSA and NSNA there will be one Heather Scaglione Leadership Scholarship; one Claydell Home Leadership Scholarship; one Willa Fuller Leadership Scholarship; one Mary Tittle Leadership Scholarship; one Paula Massey Leadership Scholarship; and one Carol Petrozella Leadership Scholarship. These awards will be $500 each. a. Heather Scaglione was active both in FNSA and NSNA from She served as NSNA s Southern Regional Director from and as President of FNSA from While in her last semester of nursing school at the University of Central Florida she was involved in a tragic fatal accident. The Executive Board, as a memorial to her contributions to FNSA, established this scholarship in her name to recognize outstanding leadership to FNSA. b. Dr. Claydell Horne has served as an FNSA consultant for over 20 years. The motivation and enthusiasm she generates is unsurpassed, professionalism is displayed in everything she accomplishes, and her vision of the future is instilled in every nursing student. This scholarship in her name is to recognize her outstanding leadership to FNSA. c. Willa Fuller, RN has served as the FNSA Executive Director for over 10 years. The motivation, dedication, and enthusiasm she generates is unsurpassed. These qualities and her professionalism and compassion is instilled in every nursing student and sets the tone for our future as professional nurses. This scholarship in her name is to recognize her outstanding leadership to FNSA. d. Dr. Mary Tittle, ARNP has served the FLN and Special consultant to FNSA for many years. Prior to that she was a school consultant at the University of Florida. She has been a tireless advocate for students giving unselfishly of her personal time. She was voted Faculty of the Year at USF several times. She also holds the coveted Honorary Lifetime Membership in FNSA. She served as the President of the Florida Nurses Association. e. Paula Massey was a nurse leader who served the Florida Nurses Association for 33 years. For 17 years, she served as Executive Director. She was very supportive of FNSA and initiated a collegial relationship that lead to FNSA using FNA headquarters as the official meeting place during the year. She was also instrumental in establishing the Liaison Program of FNSA to FNA. She also supported the First Year Free for FNSA members making the transition to FNA, as well as, the relationship that allows the FNSA scholarships to be housed with the Florida Nurses Foundation. She has received FNSA s highest honor, Honorary Lifetime Membership. f. Carol Petrozella, EdD, RN we are currently raising funds for this scholarship and we need your donations to fully endow the Carol Petrozella, EdD, RN scholarship. Dr. Petrozella is an instructor at Miami Dade College. She has served as both as a school consultant and a State Consultant, respectively for over 19 years. She is a past recipient of the Honorary Lifetime Membership in FNSA, as well as the FNA Heather Scaglione Award further support of students and FNSA over many years. She has been the backbone of the FNSACAPS program, being the only certified trainer in the state. 1

2 Although she has retired from the FNSA consultant role, she continues to support the students by facilitating CAPS training sessions. She was also instrumental in introducing the March of Dimes Community Health project to FNSA. She served as the FNSA NLN consultant and kept NLN involved in FNSA providing sponsorships and scholarships for many years. g. Applicants must currently be enrolled in Nursing courses in the State of Florida or be a recent graduate. h. A letter of recommendation from the Chapter Consultant or Dean/Director must accompany the application to indicate the applicant s level of activity in FNSA/NSNA. 2. There will be one Helen Ann Dean Scholarship, and one Chloe Trammel Memorial Award for outstanding contributions to your local FNSA Chapter. These awards will be $250 each. a. Helen Ann Dean was the Treasurer of SNAF in Although she was losing her sight to Diabetes, she was a dedicated student of nursing and a very active member of SNAF. She recognized the financial needs of nursing students and, in the Spring of 1969, proposed guidelines for a nursing scholarship to be given to members of SNAF. On April 10, 1969, the Executive Board approved her proposal. b. Dr. Chloe Trammel served on the Board of Florida League for Nursing for many years. She was instrumental in developing the first associates degree program in nursing for Miami-Dade Community College in Dr. Trammel was the President of Chapter 28 for the Florida Nurses Association and served on the Board of Directors for the South Florida Unit of the Florida League for Nursing. The award consists of $ to be awarded to a nursing student by the Florida League for Nursing. The recipient will be invited to attend the Annual Florida League for Nursing Convention and awards luncheon. c. Applicants must currently be registered in Nursing courses in the State of Florida or be a recent graduate. d. A statement from the Chapter Consultant or Dean/Director must be presented to indicate the applicant s level of FNSA Chapter activity. 3. There will be several FNSA Scholarships determined by the amount of monies available. The amount of each award will be determined by the Scholarship Selection Committee. These scholarships are based on financial need. The Selection Committee will be responsible for establishing the number of scholarships and the value of each scholarship. a. Applicants must currently be enrolled in nursing courses in the State of Florida or a recent graduate. b. Proof of financial need is required. This shall be determined by information submitted by the student using the award application and including the financial page. Pennies PRN, initiated by FNSA Treasurer, Don Chapman, will be a standing scholarship fundraiser to be held annually. Monies will be raised by the Chapters throughout the year. A certificate will be given to the Chapter that raises the highest amount of money for Pennies PRN. 2

Application for FNSA Scholarship must include a financial statement (see page ). 1. Applicants must currently be enrolled in nursing courses in the State of Florida. 2. Proof of financial need is required. This shall be determined by information submitted by the student using the award application and including the financial page. D. Please place application on 1 side of paper only (front only). Do NOT put 2 pages on 1 sheet of paper (front and back). Thank you. The deadline for all applications is the first night of the FNSA Annual Convention by 7 PM. It is mandatory that applications be brought to convention and submitted at the Registration Desk between the hours of 5 pm 7 pm. This information will be announced in the first House of Delegates. Make sure you receive a receipt for your application. 3
