Stalking Prevention Treatment Study Research Assistant September 2006 to May 2007 Research assistant in a study comparing a modified Dialectical Behavior Therapy treatment program against a treatment-as-usual (TAU) anger management program for a group of male stalking offenders. Responsibilities included: preparation of TAU anger management sessions based on Duluth model; weekly meetings with TAU co-facilitator and lead investigators to discuss development of project; and co-facilitation of weekly TAU meetings with offenders. Responsibilities included: designing study methodology; conducting statistical analyses, including regression, cross-tabulation, and ROC curves; and writing of graduate thesis under supervision of thesis director. Competency Research Project Manager January 2006 to August 2006 Project Manager for a study examining factors differentiating incompetent defendants who are restored to competency versus those who are unable to be restored to competency. Responsibilities included: training research assistants on scoring of competency assessments and directing literature search of previous competency research. Supervisor: Roslyn M. African American Male Identity Research Project Coordinator October 2005 to October 2006 Co-coordinator for a study examining and comparing identity development, cultural mistrust, and mental health issues among African American male college students and African American male offenders. Responsibilities included: communication with Lab Director on project progress; administering assessment battery (NEO PI-R, QOLI, SCL-90, and CRI-A); scheduling and maintenance of data collection and entry; and the writing of a poster for a conference. Responsibilities include: administering intake interviews, designing and implementing therapeutic interventions for individual clients and couples, and conducting case presentations and other in-service activities. Forensic Practicum Training July 2008 to June 2009 Practicum student with the Delaware Division of Child and Mental Health Services (DCMHS) at the Ferris School for Boys. The Ferris School is a maximum secure (Level V) facility for male adolescents adjudicated for an average of 6 to 12 months. Responsibilities included: conducting intake interviews; administering the Global Appraisal of Individual Needs (GAIN), a biopsychosocial assessment, to determine substance use and mental health treatment needs of residents; consulting with multidisciplinary team to develop residents treatment plan; and maintaining a therapy caseload. Supervisor: Aileen Fink, Ph.D., Supervising Psychologist, DCMHS. Middle School Counselor and Teacher August 2003 to August 2005 Counselor and teacher at the Nativity Mission Center (NMC). NMC is a year-round and extended-day school and support center for at-risk male youths from low-income families in New York City. Responsibilities included: conducting individual and group counseling sessions for students with behavioral and academic struggles; administering assessments to screen for learning difficulties (e.g., Woodcock Johnson Reading Mastery Test); and designing and teaching various curricula for sixth and eighth grade students. Supervisor: Vincent DeCola, S.J., Director, Nativity Mission Center, New York. Prison Counselor August 2001 to June 2003 Volunteer counselor, through the Jesuit Volunteers International, at the Belize Central Prison. Responsibilities included: leading supportive counseling sessions for minimum and maximum security male and female inmates; advocating for the therapeutic needs of prisoners to administration; establishing and teaching a program to provide inmates an opportunity to earn their Primary School equivalency certificate; and teaching literacy classes.
