The proposal received wide supports from WWF International and network, in particular offices in BRICS countries. The roundtable was debuted in November 11, 2013 in Beijing, with a productive interaction between Chinese and African banking regulators and institutions. China-Africa Sustainable Banking Strategic Dialogue, organized jointly by WWF China, WWF South Africa and Standard Bank, attracted senior officials from China Banking Regulatory Commission, the Central Bank of Nigeria, Kenya Bankers Association, the Banking Association of South Africa, China Development Bank, the Export-Import Bank of China, the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Bank of China, China Industrial Bank, China Huaxia Bank, Standard Bank, FirstRand Bank, BMCE and EcoBank to share views and exchange experience on the ESG risk management and sustainable growth. The dialogue focused on the green credit regulatory framework, Chinese banks implementing the Green Credit Guidelines, the experience and challenges of African banks implementing Equator Principles and other ESG frameworks, key challenges and opportunities of collaboration on the sustainable banking in China and Africa. The meeting reached the consensus that: 1. Chinese and African banking regulators and financial institutions should strengthen exchange and cooperation on green credit and green investment. Mr. Habil Olak, CEO of Kenya Bankers Association proposes to host 2 nd China Africa Sustainable Banking Strategic Dialogue in Kenya. CBRC would like to help African banks meet and discuss with their Chinese peers. 2. Chinese and African banks should work together to facilitate the sustainably economic and social development in Africa, including green technology transfer, sustainable infrastructure development, responsible trade on forestry and other commodities. 3. Both Chinese and African participants call on keeping the momentum of such discussion and if possible, organize a Sustainable Bank CEO Roundtable.
