2 BUSINESS Clarke University has been producing business majors for over 85 years. Our business graduates are an essential part of the foundation contributing to the greatness of Dubuque as a model community and excellent choice for businesses. Clarke s Business Department offers three different areas of study: Marketing: sales and advertising side of the business Finance: accounting and money side of the business Management: operation and human resources side of the business THE CLARKE ADVANTAGE FUTURE YOUNG PROFESSIONALS (FYP) This group helps Clarke business students become more professional and confident in the business world with events such as: Take Charge Leadership Series A fall and spring series of various speakers and panel discussions on professional topics, such as Developing Leadership Presence, Leadership Lessons, LinkedIn, How to Build Your Brand, Emotional Intelligence, Personality Assessments and more. CEO Luncheon Local executives serve on a panel discussion to share their lessons and how they got to where they are today. After the panel students join the panelists for lunch and continuing discussion. Dress for Success FYP leaders gather lightly used, donated professional clothing and host a Success Shop, where students get to shop for a professional dress outfit for free. It helps students get ready for their first professional interview or to work at their first job. Dubuque Community Days of Caring FYP takes on a volunteer project in the Dubuque Community to help a non-profit with its needs. Clarke faculty includes published authors, a strategic consultant and decades of real-world experience in banking, management, accounting, law and economics. Clarke s faculty has more than 100 years of combined professional experience. Clarke s Business Department includes a global travel course designed to help students better understand global business and cultures by traveling to foreign countries for 10 to 15 days during the first term of each summer session. As the cost of public tuition has increased by more than 100 percent in the last five years compared to private schools, the value of a private business education continues to rise. EARLY-ACCESS PROGRAMS Clarke has Early-Access programs in its master of business administration and master of organizational leadership. The Early- Access programs offer eligible students the ability to complete 12 hours of graduate credit while in their undergraduate degree program. These credits can be counted as undergraduate electives toward a bachelor s degree. Students can then complete their master of business administration or master of organizational leadership degrees in as little as 12 to 18 months after completing 12 credit hours in the Early-Access program as an undergraduate.

3 All business department students are required to do an internship. Real world experience provided by an internship is invaluable when it comes time to enter the job market. ACCOUNTING An accounting degree from Clarke University is designed to prepare students for careers as certified public accountants serving a variety of public clients or management accountants working within a corporation. The program stresses both practical applications and theoretical foundations of accounting for business and management. In 2014, the group went to Ireland and Great Britain. The overall average starting salary for Class of 2014 college graduates earning bachelor s degree in business was $53,901, according to the National Association of Colleges and Employers.

4 SPORT MANAGEMENT In the rapidly growing field of sport management, you will learn how sports functions in the entertainment industry and interacts with business and philanthropic entities. Sport management professionals must understand the complexities of this competitive industry and develop strategies for personal and organizational success. Pursuing a degree in sport management prepares students for exciting careers in the global sport industry, including athletic management, health and fitness management, event management, as well as marketing, sales, public relations and other sport-related positions. THE CLARKE ADVANTAGE At Clarke University, you will gain valuable knowledge from a team of experienced business professors. Emphasis on fieldwork experiences outside the traditional class setting provides students with knowledge and skills to transition toward full-time employment. Students are also provided opportunities to participate in annual international trips. You can minor in business or double major in business and sport management. You are eligible for early access to Clarke s MBA or MOL programs. Clarke s Kehl Center serves as a laboratory. 5 OUR ALUMNI JAKE WHIPP 02 Jake is a senior financial advisor with the Larson Financial Group in Chicago. He works exclusively with physicians in the Chicago market. He mentors other advisors in different markets (i.e. Iowa, Cleveland, Detroit, Pittsburgh) and has clients in 25 states. Clarke taught me the basics of business. I was able to have success at Clarke and was able to use that as a benchmark. At challenging times during my professional career, I would look back to times I was challenged at Clarke and succeeded. I used that at motivation which gave me confidence to succeed in whatever I was doing professionally. RYAN DILLON 06 Ryan is the manager for group sales for the Chicago Cubs baseball team. Previously he served as a supervisor for outbound sales and as a senior account executive for Major League Baseball s Colorado Rockies. Clarke taught me the importance of challenging myself to grow professionally and personally as well. I was able to realize the importance of internships and building your resume to help you get ready for the workforce. Clarke also gave me a good understanding of the workforce and put me in a great position to obtain a job after college.
