3 Insurance Continuing Education Insurance CE State Requirements for CE: California: Life and/or Accident/Health agents must complete 24 hours biennially, including 4 hours of ethics. Fire & Casualty broker-agents must complete a minimum of 25 approved credit hours for that license type for each of the first four 12-month periods, starting from the issuance date of the original license. Licensees must also complete 4 hours of ethics. After the first 4 years of licensure, 24 hours is required biennially, including 4 hours of ethics. Colorado: All licensees are required to complete 24 hours of CE every 2 years (3 hours ethics, 18 hours in major lines, and 3 hours miscellaneous). 4 Insurance Licensing 2013 Class Schedule How to Obtain Your California Insurance License In California, you must complete an approved prelicensing education course BEFORE you can take your insurance licensing exam. The state requires completion of 12 hours of approved Ethics and California Insurance Code education. In addition, you are required to complete one of the following: 40 hours of Life and Health, 20 hours of Life Only, or 20 hours of Accident and Health education (depending on the type of license you will need). Exemptions may apply for experienced professionals and those who have a current insurance license in another state; please call for more information. 1. 5 Securities Licensing 2013 Class Schedule How to Obtain Your Securities License 1. You must be at least 18 years of age and have a basic understanding of the industry to attend our classes. 2. Submit your Form U-4 to your employer pursuant to the employer s requirements. A window to take the exam will not be opened without a Form U-4 submission. 3. Enroll in a Kaplan Financial Education securities licensing course four to six weeks before the class date by calling Kaplan Financial Education customer service at or enrolling online at 4. Schedule an appointment for the licensing exam with Prometric Testing Centers at three to four weeks before the class begins. The appointment will be canceled if you are not approved for testing on the basis of submission of the Form U For optimum results, plan to do some pre/post-study. Also, plan for homework questions each night and two to three days of review before taking your licensing exam. 6.
