3 As part of the Active workforce campaign, NHS England pledges to: Provide systems and ways of working which will support the future sustainability of NHS England Encourage staff to connect with patients and support local communities by committing to the Employee Volunteering Policy. Support local initiatives which make a difference to the local community and wider society. Support the health of its workforce through encouraging increased physical activity, healthy eating, supporting mental health
4 Provide systems and ways of working which will support the future sustainability of NHS England. We will promote the Organisational Business Travel and Expenses Policy. We will monitor usage of managed print to. We will promote ICT tools such as WebEx, video-conferencing and teleconferencing to reduce avoidable travel. Implemented a Cycle2work scheme
5 Encourage staff to connect with patients and support local communities by committing to the Employee Volunteering Policy. We will run campaigns to encourage staff to take up the opportunity to volunteer for one week as outlined in the Employee Volunteering policy. We will provide resources to support people to find volunteering opportunities. We will engage with staff to use volunteering for personal and professional development throughout the PDR process.
6 Support local initiatives which make a difference to the local community and wider society. We will take the lead on promoting national awareness days for community and charitable organisations. We will share the events calendar for the year with all Regions and engagement groups to encourage activity and the sharing of ideas across the whole organisation. We will encourage staff to take part in a Summer Food Bank collection for needy organisations that provide food to families over the summer holidays.

13 NHS Standard Contract: SC18 Sustainable Development 18.1 In performing its obligations under this Contract the Provider must take all reasonable steps to minimise its adverse impact on the environment The Provider must maintain a sustainable development plan in line with NHS Sustainable Development Guidance. The Provider must demonstrate its progress on climate change adaptation, mitigation and sustainable development, including performance against carbon reduction management plans, and must provide a summary of that progress in its annual report The Provider must, in performing its obligations under this Contract, give due regard to the impact of its expenditure on the community, over and above the direct purchase of goods and services, as envisaged by the Public Services (Social Value) Act 2012.
