2 What is CARA CARA is an ergonomically designed, fast, web user interface and business rules engine, currently released for the following platforms: Documentum (alternative to Webtop or D2) Oracle WebCenter Alfresco It is designed to facilitate the creation, review, approval and management of documents. This document outlines the major new features that are part of CARA v3.5 (Sept 2013).

3 Summary v3.5 Major New Features CARA Rendering Services Generate PDF renditions replace CTS, ADTS or other tools Generate thumbnails replace Documentum Thumbnail Server CARA Hub Major extensions to the ability to both customize CARA (create new or modify existing functionality) and to integrate in easy steps with external systems Permissions behavior Use CARA to set the initial permissions automatically but allow users to manually modify them afterwards combination of existing automatic and manual settings Lifecycle Configuration Configure actions, move freely between any (non-consecutive) states, define conditional transition behavior, validation rules, PDF rendition generation, version handling, & more Widgets Gallery Make selection of standard and custom widgets easier by providing a thumbnail-based selection for users, including the new HTML widgets Registered Tables Full management of registered table data from within CARA (add, modify, delete rows) Copy configuration Copy sets of configurations across rule keys to reduce the time to define multiple sets of similar rules

4 Summary v3.5 Major New Features Workflows add scripts Add scripts to be executed on workflow steps, to perform system actions before or after user actions Notification extensions Configure different s for different notification events (outside workflows, which were already separate per event) e.g. when a document is viewed, or edited Dynamic recipients Define recipients for workflows and for notifications based on attribute values e.g. <department_name>_managers Properties mapping Extended to allow concatenation and splitting (e.g. split a string at a certain character and map to repeating values of another field) Full Lotus support Extended existing support ( importing) to add the ability to generate an EML containing URLs / attached documents, ready to complete and send Grid conditional handling Extended conditional visibility, editability and similar handling to grid controls in a properties form Virtual documents enhanced More CARA Structures functionality added to Virtual Documents e.g. automatic checkout, snapshots and more

5 CARA Rendering Services PDF Rendering Run the PDF rendering service on multiple / separate servers to spread the load. Render the following file formats to PDF including embedding fonts: DOC DOCX RTF XLS XLSX PDF TXT JPG GIF PNG BMP EML MSG PPT PPTX TIF CGM Thumbnails Create multiple sized thumbnails (one each for the CARA preview, CARA thumbnail widget and mouse-over of the thumbnail widget) of the following formats: DOC DOCX RTF XLS XLSX PDF TXT JPG GIF PNG BMP EML MSG PPT PPTX TIF CGM

6 CARA Hub - Integrations Integrate third party applications into panes, additional windows, widgets through easy configuration rather than hard-coding. 7 Lifecycle Configurations Configure which states can move to which others, configure custom scripts or actions on a status change, and also the notifications

8 Widgets Gallery Choose widgets from a new Gallery of thumbnails of the widgets, including both custom and standard widgets

9 Copy Configurations Copy one set of configurations Apply them to another part of your rule set

10 Workflow Extensions Script some system actions for when a workflow is issued, completed or rejected

11 Popular Existing Features Dimensions & SnapLists Widgets Document Views Build your own tree view - choose any properties and browse documents in a different way (Dimensions) or create a tree from complex queries for users to navigate. Extensible panel showing widgets choose from core set (e.g. properties, renditions) or create your own, linking in any web service as a widget. Define different views for different user groups / usage scenarios completely personalized view and set of features. Dashboards Add any query to the dashboard, and results can be shown as tables, charts, or graphs, exported to Excel, or embedded as widgets in the main view. User Preferences All settings that users choose (column displays and widths, dimensions tree-view, filters, cabinet restrictions and so on) are saved so that the user can log in from another machine and will have the same preference choices applied. Configuration Configure every aspect of the user interface as well as building business rules such as dynamic security and folder paths, data dictionaries and taxonomies, numbering, and more. Achieve all this without coding, cutting down the cost and effort of customizations.
