3 Transportation Network Central Location An efficient and convenient crossroads of highway systems makes commerce to and from Minneapolis/St. Paul, La Crosse, Rochester, Dubuque, Madison and all points beyond, a unique advantage offered by Fond du Lac County. Fond du Lac County serves as a central location with excellent highway access to major markets in Milwaukee (60 miles), Madison (70 miles), Green Bay (70 miles), Chicago (150 miles) and Minneapolis (275 miles). Top Notch Highway System U.S. Highway 41 is the major north south route providing four lanes of traffic through the County. This highway is being slated to be designated an Interstate (WI DOT expected timeframe of 2014). Highway 151 is a major east west corridor with expanded four lanes between Fond du Lac and Madison. State Highways 23, 68, 67 and 103 provide east west travel and highways 45, 26, 44, 49, 149 and 175 provide north south access to points throughout Fond du Lac County. Short Commute Times Fond du Lac County is below the national and state average for commute times, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. The average Fond du Lac County resident spends 19.7 minutes commuting to work, while Wisconsinites spend 21.5 minutes and U.S. residents average over 25.4 minutes. 3

8 Higher Education Higher Education opportunities abound in Fond du Lac County with four colleges providing talented human capital for existing and new companies. Marian University of Fond du Lac is a Catholic applied liberal arts institution of higher learning offering undergraduate, graduate, accelerated and continuing education programs. Moraine Park Technical College is one of 16 colleges in the Wisconsin Technical College System and offers more than 100 associate degrees, apprenticeships, technical diplomas, and certificates taught by instructors with real-world experience. Ripon College provides a nationally recognized, residential, student-centered liberal arts and sciences education leading to the Bachelor of Arts degree. University of Wisconsin Fond du Lac is a freshman/sophomore campus of the University of Wisconsin and offers courses that are the foundation for more than 250 majors. Five bachelor s degree completion programs from four UW Schools can be earned on the UW-Fond du Lac campus.
