2 MARKET EVALUATION Market Analysis for an Online Supply Chain Management Program - In this report, Hanover Research assesses the feasibility of an online or blended-format supply chain management program. The first section examines national and regional trends in degree conferrals among supply chain management programs. The second section presents an overview of supply chain management programs in the region, specifying the location and delivery format of each program. This section also profiles several Midwestern and national supply chain management programs with a focus on marketing, delivery format, curricula, and other characteristics. Market Analysis for an Addiction Counseling Degree Program - In this report, Hanover Research analyzes potential demand for an Addiction Counseling degree program. The first section examines degree completion trends at the national, regional, and local level. The second section discusses the occupational outlook for addiction counseling related careers, as well as issues such as regional licensure regulations. In the final section, we profile relevant addiction counseling programs in the region. Job Opportunities for Religious Studies Majors - In this report, Hanover Research determines possible job opportunities for students with a Religious Studies degree from the School of Liberal Arts, focusing largely on opportunities within the South Eastern United States. Master s Programs in Legal Fields for Non-J.D.s - This report and the accompanying spreadsheet present a thorough overview of master s-level degrees in law that do not require a prior professional degree in law. Student demand and program characteristics are assessed. Market Analysis: MA in Tourism Management - In the following report, Hanover Research analyzes the market for a new Master of Arts in Tourism Management at the University. The report addresses trends in international tourism, the student market for tourism and hospitality programs, the demand for these graduates, and other programs in Canada offering similar degrees. Comparative Analysis of Top Ranked Peer Institutions, U.S.News & World Report - This Hanover report presents analysis and observations for the College of Business Administration regarding business schools ranked by the U.S.News & World Report as having the best undergraduate business programs, undergraduate specialty business programs, and graduate specialty business programs in the country. Trends in Chemistry Degrees - In the following report, Hanover Research provides a general overview of trends in chemistry degree conferrals nationally and in the region. Our analysis focuses particularly on trends in associate-level conferrals, with the aim of assessing fluctuations in the popularity of such degrees in recent years. Post-Baccalaureate Certificates in Spanish - In this report, Hanover Research describes current trends in programs that offer post-baccalaureate certificates in Spanish, and profiles existing certificate programs in North America. Community College Corporate Training Programming - In this report, Hanover Research examines current trends in corporate training and workforce development programs at community colleges throughout the United States. Our report also includes profiles of six labor-marketresponsive community colleges currently using innovative strategies to meet the needs of their local, regional, and national business clients. Competitor Comparison: Evening M.B.A. Program - In this report, Hanover Research provides a comparative analysis of two universities Evening M.B.A. programs. We discuss admission requirements, program type and length, total courses and credits, online and hybrid capabilities, 2
3 marketing efforts, and curriculum. The final section of the report profiles several competitor programs. International Trends in Postgraduate Education - In this report, Hanover Research examines international trends in postgraduate education. Student enrollment and completions data, as well as labor market projections, are presented for the following countries: Australia, the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. General trends suggest that the fields of business, healthcare, education, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), and social sciences demonstrate substantial and growing demand for postgraduate qualifications. Scan of Law Schools Offering International Clinic Placements - This report provides a scan of law schools offering international clinic and externship placements. The first section of the report reviews current literature on best practices and trends in legal clinical education with a focus on international experiential learning. The second and third sections scan peer and aspirant institutions and profile relevant clinical programs. Aviation Program Demand in the Region - In this report, Hanover Research assesses the feasibility for the potential establishment of a new aviation program at the associate s or bachelor s level by the University. The report considers historical degree conferral data and occupational employment projections to gauge student and labor market demand at the national level and within the region, specifically. The report also features profiles of several associate s and bachelor s degree programs in aviation currently offered by institutions in the region. Scan of Colleges Offering Developmental Science Courses: Southwestern States - In this report, Hanover Research provides a scan of colleges offering developmental science courses in the Southwest region of the United States. Campus Feasibility Study - In the report, Hanover Research evaluates the feasibility of a satellite campus in Virginia. We examine several factors likely to affect the success of such a campus, including demographics, trends in occupational employment, competitor institutions, and program demand. Environmental Scan - In the following report, Hanover Research provides an overview of demographic, higher education, and labor market trends in eleven counties. The scope of the report is intended to help the College consider the feasibility of a branch campus to create new revenue, provide greater accessibility and convenience for potential students, and meet a need within the higher education marketplace. Current Practices in Graduate Credentials - In this report, we present the graduate diplomas and certificates offered by colleges and universities in the province by institution and by field, paying special attention to tuition for international students and other program characteristics. We then examine graduate diplomas and certificates on the national level. Finally, we examine industry trends within the economies of the province and Canada as a whole to predict those sectors whose growth will increase student demand for graduate diploma programs. Exercise Science Program Models - In this report, Hanover Research outlines models for transforming an exercise science program oriented toward physical education into one more closely tied to the biological and life sciences. The first section offers a market scan of exercise science programs offered by state institutions. Subsequent sections examine relevant programs in detail. An Overview of Higher Education in Post-Revolution Egypt - In this report, Hanover Research provides an updated briefing on higher education in post-revolution Egypt. We focus on new developments within Egyptian higher education as well as international partnerships being formed 3
4 with foreign universities and consortia. We draw our information from numerous contemporary sources, including higher education institutions and news outlets from around the world. BENCHMARKING Benchmarking Governance Structures at Private Universities - In this report, Hanover Research provides an overview of trends in university governance structures, with a specific focus on private institutions. Following a literature review examining general trends, we profile the governance structures of three peer institutions in detail. Safety and Security Benchmarking: Incident Reporting - In this report, Hanover Research examines the incident reporting procedures at 11 of the University s peer institutions. We provide information on reporting policies and protocol, judicial process procedures, marketing tools, training, and assessment. Law School Tuition and Student Debt Benchmarking - In this brief, Hanover Research presents findings on law school tuition rates and law school graduate indebtedness for state law schools. QUANTITATIVE & QUALITATIVE ANALYSIS Retention Study - In this report, Hanover Research examines freshman-sophomore and sophomore-junior retention among students who matriculated at the College through four academic years from fall 2007 to fall Regression analysis is also used to distinguish significant predictors of retention using student demographic, academic, or other characteristics. Lastly, we examine average freshman-sophomore retention rates at the College relative to peer/competitor and aspirant institutions LSSSE Longitudinal Study - In this report Hanover Research highlights notable changes in survey responses to questions covering a range of topics, from academic advising and faculty relationships to extracurricular activities and expected debt burden. In addition to examining broad trends in overall responses over the five years in question, we investigate the contributions of student sub-populations with potentially conflicting perspectives. We compare responses by class, gender, race, and cumulative undergraduate GPA. Bar Passage Correlation Study - In this report, we examine the relationships between various student characteristics and performance on the state bar exam. In addition, we employ the use of regression analysis to determine whether certain variables can help predict passage. Enrollment Patterns of Malaysian Students - In this report, Hanover Research examines the enrollment patterns of Malaysian students at the University. We compare these data with Malaysian student enrollments in the U.K. and Malaysian student enrollments across undergraduate programs in Malaysia. Based on this comparison, we map whether course offerings at the University align with Malaysian student enrollments in the U.K. and Malaysia. Non Pell and Federal Loan Student Disaggregation - For this project, Hanover used prior student enrollment and financial aid data reports from the University to identify cohorts of students who received a Pell grant while attending the institution, those who received a subsidized federal loan but not a Pell grant, and those who did not receive either type of aid. These cohorts were developed for each undergraduate class entering the institution between 2006 and 2011, fulfilling the Student Right to Know provision of Title IV of the Higher Education Act. 4
5 SURVEYING 2011 Alumni Engagement Survey Results & Analysis - In this report, Hanover Research analyzes responses to the 2011 Alumni Engagement Survey. We analyze responses by crosstabs of interest to the Alumni Relations Office and report on significant and substantial differences among groups of respondents. Opinion Leaders Survey Analysis - In this report, we analyze the results of the Opinion Leaders Survey, which was administered to local community leaders in an effort to help the School of Public Health better understand how to engage opinion leaders in the region. MS in Journalism Alumni Survey Analysis - In this report, we present findings from a survey of alumni of the Master of Science in Journalism program at the University. Specific topics addressed include curriculum, advising, and career preparation. LITERATURE REVIEW Modern Conference Centers: Trends and Best Practices - In this report, Hanover Research examines best practices and technological trends among area conference centers. Three types of facilities host meetings: conference centers, hotels, and colleges and universities. We provide several case studies within each category in an attempt to highlight the range of services offered by such sites and the associated fees. Post-Tenure Review Best Practices Primary Research Update - In this report, Hanover Research examines post-tenure review practices at public, Midwestern universities that have a collectively bargained agreement with instructional faculty. Profiles are provided of post-tenure review practices at seven institutions, focusing on evaluation procedures and rewards and sanctions mechanisms for exemplary and unsatisfactory performance, where applicable. Fee Utilization Among Public Universities - In this report, Hanover Research reviews existing research on tuition and fee systems at public universities, with a focus on application fees and general fees. In addition to analyzing fees commonly associated with student enrollment, special attention is paid to recent trends in fee requirements and students reactions to new fees. The report concludes with summaries of several comparable institutions fee structures. Best Practices for Strategic Planning in Higher Education - In this report, Hanover Research examines best practices for strategic planning in higher education. We focus on the structure and processes associated with medium and long-term goal-setting initiatives conducted by publiclyfunded Australian universities. Insurance Responsibility at Canadian Universities - In this report, Hanover Research assesses the framework for risk management and insurance responsibility in Canadian universities by providing a brief review of the literature and in-depth profiles of nine institutions. Teaching-Only Staff Employment Policies - In this report, Hanover Research examines teachingonly and teaching-intensive faculty policies at research universities in the United States. The report draws on the literature, as well as real-world examples from research-intensive universities, to provide insight into the roles of teaching-only academic staff at America s universities, as well as the characteristics of their contracts and employment obligations. Enterprise Risk Management in Higher Education - In the following report, Hanover Research examines enterprise risk management (ERM) among institutions of higher education. We discuss the basics of ERM, along with the results of a relevant 2008 survey of higher education administrators. Profiles of risk management practices at 16 peer institutions are also provided. 5
