1 4+1 Bachelors/MBA Option Considering a career in business, government or the non- profit sector? Shepherd s 4+1 option for current students, regardless of background, provides a pathway for you to: Complete your undergraduate liberal arts, professional or business degree; Master contemporary business knowledge and skills; Be a stand out in today s global and competitive job market. Apply for the fifth- year MBA Apply to the 4+1 Bachelors/MBA program when you have completed 90 undergraduate hours and met other requirements of the program, such as the minimum GPA requirement. Students must also provide the additional materials required for MBA admissions requirements: C.V., letter of intent and two recommendation letters. Build your business foundation Students without a business background can take the three MBA foundation courses (9 credits) during the senior year. These credits will (can?) count as undergraduate electives, but are also applied toward the MBA. You ll pay for these senior- year credits at undergraduate tuition rates. MBA FDA Foundations of Accounting* MBA FDE Foundations of Economics* MBA FDS Foundations of Statistics* *Foundations courses may be waived based on relevant undergraduate courses in these areas. If any of the foundations courses are waived, students may take an MBA core course during the senior year. *4+1 students must earn at least a B grade in each foundation course in order to matriculate into the MBA program. Students who earn less than a B will need to retake the course. *Students already in the undergraduate business programs should work closely with their advisor and department chair for the appropriate courses to use at the undergraduate level.
2 Catalog Description: The Shepherd University 4+1 program for the master of business administration (MBA) degree allows interested and qualified students to complete a bachelor s degree (BS- BADM) and an MBA in five years. Students in the 4+1 program focus on their bachelor s degree requirements during their first three years, a mix of bachelor s and MBA requirements in the fourth year, and mostly MBA requirements in the fifth year. Each degree is awarded once the specific degree requirements are successfully met. Students need to work closely with their advisor to make sure they are selecting coursework that covers both degree requirements. Additionally, students are encouraged to meet with the University's Financial Aid Office since financial assistance (whether in the form of grants, scholarships, loans, etc.) is unique to each student/family situation. Justification: An accelerated graduate program allows students to save time and money by having them spend less time in school than in a traditional MBA program. By providing an accelerated pathway to a graduate degree, students in Shepherd s business degree programs fulfill necessary foundational course work and pre- requisite knowledge for the MBA, and, by taking graduate- level courses avoid duplication of some material that is common to the business program at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Note: Students may choose up to 4 courses or a total of 12 credits CORE MBA Challenges to Modern Business (3 cr) MBA Advanced Management Theory (3 cr) MBA Leadership and Ethics (3cr) MBA Advanced Marketing Theory (3 cr) MBA Managerial Economics (3 cr) MBA Managerial Accounting (3 cr) ELECTIVES MBA Entrepreneurship (3cr) MBA Business Law (3cr) MBA Fundraising and Grant Writing (3cr) MBA Non- profit and Service Marketing (3cr) MBA Business in West Virginia (3 cr)
