1 Cause and Effect of The San Diego/Tijuana Border Description: The border between San Diego and Tijuana demonstrates how decisions made without considering the landscape have far-reaching consequences. Participants will explore the development of the border from a geographical line to a solidified barrier. Discuss conceptual ideas regarding the region. Review local case studies as methods on how Tijuana and San Diego deal with the current issues related to the physical Border Fence. These examples illustrate processes in dealing with federal, state agencies attempting to solve the problems caused by the border. Learning Objectives: Learn the history of the border between Tijuana and San Diego. From an abstract line to its current state. Review three theoretical reflections regarding the concept of the trans-border metropolis and hybrid regions. Learn about the process, social, political and environmental issues caused by the current border condition. Reviewing case studies to see how both sides have dealt with a layered wall system. Speaker Bios: Rene Peralta Landscape+Urbanism Director Woodbury University Rene Peralta is a native of Tijuana, Mexico and educated at the New School of Architecture in San Diego and the Architectural Association in London.
